This is an excuse. Remember when she said "Uncle will be the wedding anthem of the decade" or something! She clearly thought it's going to be a huge hit! And so does when she released Bday because Billboard called it an easy #1 smash. And yes, she might have thought the GP will eat TIHWD (that's what I thought too)!
If your statement was correct and she's not looking for TD-like smashes, then she could have been more smarter if she never released these generic songs as singles and maybe we could be expecting a grammy next year! This is just my opinion tho!
