I mean Katy released a single that was promoted everywhere including the RNC convention and the Olympics yet it barely did over 130k, another example is Britney that did every promo spot there is for a lead that had a collaboration with one of the year's hit rappers and couldn't even touch 100k
for an artist that was away from the pop scene for over 3 years to come back with a song that is so different from the usual pop radio friendly format and possibly do 100k first week in the current state of digital sales it's not an easy thing to do

The excuses
RNC? You mean DNC and she performed the song almost 2 weeks after the single was released so wtf are you talking about? The only promo it had first week was iTunes banners and that's it. The song was released with a press release that it was a promo single for NBC so for it to debut with 137k is phenomenal since no one expected a single from Katy anytime soon.
Now Gaga's numbers are embarrassing. Paid golden globe, performance slots in high profile award shows and she can't even break 100k with a hugely anticipated lead single? A fad.
