That's one of the many things she said. In an interview she did say it showcases her as edgy which is objectively not true.
She also said in another interview that it's just like Teenage Dream, as in full of pop hits, except they're more core of the music and more organic. That I agree with.
This treatment would slay, I can picture it! I can even think of a couple of moments where it could be slightly camp but still keep the video's seriousness overall, like accidentally rubbing flour on her forehead and looking at the cookery book in confusion. These shots could be literally a second each and it would be alright and for the most part, it could stay sexy but still very Katy.

I know I'm going way ahead, but I think she should release a serious pop/rock power type ballad as the first single to her next album. That might help her transition into a more mature sounding star.
