She has to have that pop appeal while still trying to stay distinctive, it's not as easy it sounds. I think it's a good effort, it's better than player and we already have Party Favours/ ROYL for her urban fans.
Surprised by everyones reaction but I hated Energy + ROYL at first but they stay on replay now. Let's just be happy we even got a second single tbh
for a girl who apparently desperately needs a hit in order to get her album released , this is pretty bad
That's the thing. I do think it's a cute track. But it was pretty clear she needed a monster and she came back with cute.

I don't think getting signed in general was the worst idea. I mean we got Aquarius out a major label deal. I just think the whole method of her crossing over has been so ****ed up.
I get that she had this superstardom dream in her head but I just think her making quality R&B music and flopping like basically every other R&B girl would be a better alternative than making okay pop music and flopping even harder.

i don't believe this for a second after we got Aquarius thru RCA
it's them. THEY need to be realistic about what she can achieve w/ the lane that she's in and the material that's given to her. what she creates on her own makes for an immaculate body for the album , if they want singles it's up to them to steer her in the right direction w/ the right producers and if they or any other optimistic ATRLer were thinking SuperLove is about to be her breakout ch...........
Her and Stargate make magic together. They understand her sound and what she need. All she needed to do was worked these boys and we would great crossover record. I hope we have some stuff from them and cashmere cat in there.

I've been saying this. She would be better off as an urban star. We really haven't had one in ages. She could also crossover to Rhythmic, but I don't see her ever becoming some huge popstar. I would blame RCA for the pop stuff but she's the one who talks about wanting to be a big star. I mean that's probably why she signed a deal with them in the first place.
The lane for a successful teen star in the urban world is wide open. It could easily be her, but the efforts to go pop hinder her chances. Regardless, if you're going to go pop at least make it good
Quality music.
I get that there has to be some compromise, but in most cases, talent does win. I mean, she was able to do well on Rhythmic with "2 On" and "All Hands On Deck", two fantastic tracks with witty lyrics, sleek instrumentals and sheik vocals. They both had great crossover appeal. "SuperLove" is cute, but sounds dated, a little underwhelming vocally, and a little dumbed-down lyrically. It doesn't even touch those two tracks.

I agree with this, even the most commercial tracks on Aquarius still had a lot of quality and the lyrics weren't literally a Taylor Swift sized mess.
Actually, all she needs is another 2 On with a big hook, so why not give her that?
I was in America at the time of release and I heard it on pop radio often enough.

It's a Code Red situation with her right now, I mean
You're trying so hard to cross over
And just end up gettin' looked over
The label ain't reachin' they quotas
And we all know money's the motive
Don't like that, don't be that
Don't sound like a state of emergency hold up
Exactly, but is that whole spacey "deep" vibe even really her or is that something she just hopped on from the early Drake days, Jhené, Weeknd etc. to get on. Her personality and everything shows that she is more "pop mainstream" than what she claims to be and what her base makes her out to be. Yeah she made some dope **** in the past but that too was her hopping on a wave that was already existing.

Girl, just because she's upbeat and smiley, that doesn't mean she can't make vibe music. Maybe you haven't read or seen enough interviews of hers... Plus, she was writing and sometimes producing these songs, so if it was contrived, it would shine through at some point
