It was during the 4 era. The album was her lowest selling but the fact that it was still able to go platinum with no major hits and in a music industry dominated by dance pop spoke volumes about her power. This was solidified more when she booked a major Pepsi deal and the superbowl and immediately went on the Mrs.Carter tour which would be the biggest tour of that year. It was during this that a lot of people realized she was the performer of her generation, the last one of her generation to still have megastar status and regardless of whether she had a big hit or not she was still a force to be reckoned with.

That isn't relevant, though. You didn't say she was able to do the best transitioning, all you said was that she was the only one to properly do one
Beyonce isn't a legend until she puts out a Greatest Hits album. But she will probably be the ONLY authentic deserving legend of our time. Because people don't have that raw talent she had these days
Girlllll Crazy In love wasn't even out during the digital surge and has managed to sell over 2 mili in the states on PHYSICAL releases which equals more coins! Single ladies and Irreplaceable are big sellers so why are you comparing her to newbies hun? She been in the game! And you and everyone on ATRL knows that if bee cared about selling more than 4 mili WW with the Beyonce album she very much could've so I'm sick of people on this board acting like she can't!
All of this.

Truly, if Beyoncé isn't a Legend (or becomes one soon), most of your faves will be forgotten
Single Ladies. She transcended her generation and gained widespread appeal to people of all ages and different parts of the globe. At my sister's wedding, even all the old aunties were doing the 'Single Ladies' hand. My niece used to stand in front of the TV and do the 'Single Ladies' hand when she was like 2 years old, and she'd sing "woah oh oh, woah oh oh, oh, oh, oh" and my mum thought it was adorable. She would do it with her.
The success of 'Single Ladies' isn't overrated. It can only really be likened to 'Thriller' and as a result, anyone who wasn't aware of who Beyonce was before it, certainly was after it.

TBH you're right. Legend became a legend in 2008/2009. I remember when she performed SL at the AMA's in 09 everyone started calling her a legend. I remember Kanye West tweeting about it and me getting my life. But then MJ died and stole her thunder.
I remember the same happened with Crazy in Love's choreo. This iconic moment with Oprah made Beyoncé just a little more appealing to Middle America.
But when it happens twice... well.. Legend status follows.
Now her name is synonymous with greatness and perfection
