07. Atreyu - Ex's and Oh's Debut: 3/7/06
Retired: 4/25/06
Days at #1: 5
The 3rd and final appearance from Atreyu on the countdown. These guys were #1 last year on my countdoen and finish 7th this year. I was really hyped for the new album, but was disappointed when the album only had 9 songs on it. I was lucky to catch these guys this year at the Taste of Chaos tour. "Ex's and Oh's should have been a really big hit for these guys, but Victory Records sucks ass for promoting their bands. Thankfully, Atreyu are no longer on Victory and hopefully can get the attention they deserve in 2007.
06. Avenged Sevenfold - Seize the Day Debut: 6/5/06
Retired: 7/24/06
Days at #1: 20
"Seize the Day" is one of those songs that has hit written all over it. Sadly, it wasn't that big of a hit. It had little success on rock radio and I still don't know why. The video was top notch and fit the song perfectly. TRL skipped over on this one for whatever reason. These guys had a huge breakout year and come 2007, a new album will hopefully be released in late 2007.
05. KoRn - Coming Undone Debut: 2/6/06
Retired: 3/31/06
Days at #1: 16
With possibly the best video of the year, KoRn had help from director Little X to create one hell of a video. The falling glass and the members unravling were what make this video different from the rest. The song was a huge hit on rock radio as it rightfully should. I got the chance to see KoRn this year on the Family Values tour and it was one hell of a show. A new album from KoRn is expeted in 2007, which is definately a good thing.
4,3, and 2 will be up tomorrow. The number one song of 2006 will be up on the 31st.
04. AFI - Love Like Winter Debut: 8/18/06
Retired: 10/6/06
Days at #1: 26
This song broke the record for most days at #1 spent on my countdown. This is AFI's 2nd appearance in my top 50. This song managed to hit number one on trl and retire too...it shocked me too. The song is definately one of my favorite's off decemberunderground. Davey's voice is top notch on this one. Evanescence seemed to have copied the video for their new single, but do you blame them? With such a good video, it doesn't hurt to copy it.
03. Stone Sour - Through Glass Debut: 6/11/06
Retired: 7/29/06
Days at #1: 21
I believe Corey Taylor could do no wrong. When I first heard this song, I instantly said that this was going to be in my top 5 for the year. The video tells the truth about Hollywood, it's full of fake ass people...TRUE STORY. The song has recently become a pop hit on the top 40 chart. I seen these guys at the Family Values tour this year and they put on a great show. This is definately one of my favorite Stone Sour song's. Let's hope these guys have more success come 2007.
02. Tool - Vicarious Debut: 4/20/06
Retired: 6/10/06
Days at #1: 3
I couldn't manage to have my top 2 set. Up until today, I kept switching back my top 2 songs. I put Tool at #2 because I feel a real connection to my #1 song. More on that later. Tool managed to return in 06 in a big way. Their album ,10,000 Days debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 chart. Maynard James Keenan's haunting voice makes the song what it is. With his voice and the guitar playing, you could do no wrong. If "Vicarious" had a video, it very well could have been my #1 of the year. Still, #2 isn't too shabby either.
