This is a different situation. Gaga had only those albums counted that were actually SOLD ON amazon (400k I believe). Jay-Z wants those counted that where bought by Samsung in order to give them away with an APP. You get the difference?

Well, people bought the album with the ticket so it was a sale. It wasn't a company, there were people that actually purchasing the tickets. A little difference. Prince did it too. I remember his album would be top 20 during concert week yet drop almost out of the top 100 when he didn't tour certain weeks.

Labels pay for shipments but that doesn't mean the shipments count for sales until the customer buys an individual copy.

Basically. It would ruin the industry as we know it. Public interest would be based on a clearance sale release. For instance, Gaga selling 1.1M when 700k were from 99c. How many of those 700k do you think wouldn't have bought it at regular price...even at $3.49.
It's all gimmicks and people are consumed by the billboard methodology change but want to defend this.

This would ruin the charts more than the new methodology people complain about.
People have problems with labels overshipping albums so artist can go platinum/multiplatinum yet are ok with this scheme.

I do agree that they are at a stratosphere of the rap world; however, did Jay not know about this deal. After reading the article, I get that he was behind this deal and wanted the sales to count.
Obviously, he cares and for it to get denied i'm sure he will not be pleased.

It is in this spirit that I say it wasn't as simple as you might think to turn down Jay-Z when he requested that we count the million albums that Samsung "bought" as part of a much larger brand partnership, to give away to Samsung customers.

The album isn't available for sale to the general public. The Billboard 200 is supposed to reflect the GP's interest in an album by reporting it's sales. Just because Samsung bought all 1 million copies doesn't mean it should count. I applaud Billboard for this.

Retailers like Amazon consistently BUY albums then resell them to make a profit (or use them as a promotional deal like Born This Way). Counting his deal with Samsung would a slap in the face to every other label and artist.

He doesn't deserve special rules.

At the end of the day. If you're upset over sales you need to reevaluate why you listen to music and enjoy it in the first place. We're fans first and consumers second. Free music is a good thing chart or not. Whatever happened to just enjoying the music? I don't see why anyone should be complaining about. .99 cent deals or even freebies tbh.

P.S chart manipulation has been around for ages.
