But probably there was a difference, like she was not paid upfront or something.

Well, people bought the album with the ticket so it was a sale. It wasn't a company, there were people that actually purchasing the tickets. A little difference. Prince did it too. I remember his album would be top 20 during concert week yet drop almost out of the top 100 when he didn't tour certain weeks.

True.

The costumers didn't pay for that thought. It's like asking Soundscan to count the albums shipped to the retailers even when the costumers haven't bought the album.

Exactly.

I don't get that...spread it out for the remainder of the year. If that's the case, everyone would do that.

Billboard is so biased I don't see why they would'nt count it since Samsung PAID for it.

Labels pay for shipments but that doesn't mean the shipments count for sales until the customer buys an individual copy.

Desert thirsty...well, being a million seller is an accolade.

So if the retailers PAID for 1 million of copies of an album that means that Billboard and Soundscan should count 1 million of copies of that album without even selling them to the costumers?
That basically means that Femme Fatale and most of ours faves album would have debuted with 1 million of copies the first week even without even selling the album to the consumers just because the retailers PAID for that milli

|
Basically. It would ruin the industry as we know it. Public interest would be based on a clearance sale release. For instance, Gaga selling 1.1M when 700k were from 99c. How many of those 700k do you think wouldn't have bought it at regular price...even at $3.49.
It's all gimmicks and people are consumed by the billboard methodology change but want to defend this.

Most likely but I guess when all else fails avoid the subject and find a silver lining.

Of course not, there's no real argument agains the subject at hand so people throw out distractions knowing that if it were Katy Perry, Rihanna or Britney their opinions would change.

Not any of you acting like he won't be opening with at least 400k anyway
|
Just like Kanye was going to at least do 500k and the sales continue to trend downward.
that said, I'm sure Jay will get 400k but you never know.

A million selling debut week is so coveted. Makes the ones that truly achieved that record much more acceptable. No gimmicks just success...minus the whole 99 c thing but it was within rules at the time.

If this was counted imagine all the future mess. Everyone would try and make these kinds of deals because they would have a guaranteed platinum album right out the gate. I think they made the right decision.
|
Exactly. I appreciate your objectivity.
This would ruin the charts more than the new methodology people complain about.
People have problems with labels overshipping albums so artist can go platinum/multiplatinum yet are ok with this scheme.

The same rule should apply here tbh

I never understood that. It's weird. You have to buy them on separate receipts.

I sense some inability to do effective research.
That said, Paula Deen better reign supreme over the food industry and music industry.
