As far as album sales go, TD has sold less than 4M worldwide. TF+TFM is over 16M, and the majority of those sales came from the re-release.

Katy hasn't finished touring yet, so we don't know how she'll gross, besides gaga's 2 is more like 2 tours combined: The Fame Ball + The Monster Ball, so it shouldn't even count. It's the same if Katy will continue touring with her next album and combine the total with this album's tour.

BR is iconic, but "iconic" is very flexible. BR is iconic for some, CG or ET is iconic for others. It's just a matter of opinion. Lets keep the argument objective and stick with numbers.

TD doesn't obliterate TFM by any metric.

However, you DO have to decide what exactly you're using to compare these two. These are the digital music sales from 2010 published by IFPI:

02. LADY GAGA BAD ROMANCE 9.7M
04. LADY GAGA FEAT. BEYONCE TELEPHONE 7.4M
06. KATY PERRY CALIFORNIA GURLS 6.7M

On Mediatraffic, Bad Romance, Telephone, California Gurls and Firework are all massive. The problem is The Fame Monster only has 3 singles to compare to, and isn't even a full album. In most places, it wasn't even offered as a standalone album. Now, what IS true is that the sales of The Fame (Monster) are in the realm of 6,000,000 during a year when there were ONLY singles from The Fame Monster released. The tour is obviously far bigger than what the California Dreams Tour will finish with. Bad Romance has almost as many views as all of Katy's video from this era put together.

You decide what stats to use to compare the two. If you want to compare the US sales of 3 singles vs. 5 singles, then sure Katy gets the crown, but by any holistic view you'd have to see that there is no way in hell that TD "obliterates" TFM.

Monsters, can some of you please leave out your personal feeling about what is "better"and look at it from a different perspective? It pretty much downgrades your argument when you do not include facts nor sources. Just a thought.

I appreaciate the fact that you are already giving TOTGA that #1 spot.

Seeing how TFM had a much longer tour, a year longer of sales, a more successful previous era, and 2 #1s on the Pop songs chart (airplay is the real promo), 1.5 million isn't all that impressive.

I also appreciate how you said TD won. Did you vote for TD?

So? Monster and Dance In The Dark could have easily been singles too. I don't there is a single person on the earth that would say "I like Monster, but it shouldn't be a single because it's from an EP not an album"

Come on... the only real difference between EPs and albums are that EPs are a little shorter (usually). All that does is get rid of filler tracks.

There was a 9 month gap between Alejandro and Born This Way. Plenty of time for more singles.

@Lyzz, she didn't have to promo the singles much or if anything. Just releasing them to the radio would have made them hits. Probably not #1, but still a hit. Come on, Monster was made to be on the radio and you know it.

Yeah, but it was still nominated last year. I'm fairly sure nothing from the album can be resubmitted for consideration. That was the whole Gaga/BestNewArtist thing.

Not in the US, and TD is still selling. Her tour isn't even finished. But how do critics' reviews make an era successful?

Sure it can! Just Dance was nominated in 2009 and everything else was nominated in 2010. Just like the VMAs if was released (as a single) during the time frame it is eligible.
