Her core fanbase remains twenty-something females and gay men.
I can't imagine you were around when she debuted, otherwise you'd remember that it was never "cool" to like her and that everyone thought she was ugly, a man, and "just another talentless popstar". I wasn't even a fan then I remember people saying that about her. The fanbase she solidified during BTW is the reason she will continue to be relevant for years to come. Some of you need a break from ATRL 'cause you're allowing this site to skew your opinions way too much.
Not me, I never really liked the album and I seriously considered myself part of the gp that got scared by it, but my approach to it, is irrelevant. What happened was, what Nick said and I have to agree with him on this one. Her fanbase mostly loved the album for obvious reasons, but for the bigger audience, the album was alienating and there's no escaping it despite the good quality of it. I think BTW has some very high quality songs, but as I said, it is irrelevant.
BTW is a fantastic album, and so is ARTPOP. As I've said before, BTW is getting better over time for me, and I think overall, it's becoming more appreciated and lauded, but that doesn't changed the fact that she basically killed all career momentum she had at the time with it. I appreciate her for taking a stand and making a stellar album, but the GP wasn't here for it, and Gaga became uncool. ARTPOP took from uncool to cool to hate, which is sad, because can you imagine of ARTPOP came after TFM? It would've been HUGE. It really is like TF/TFM's follow up, but unfortunately, her team and label were unable to wipe away the negativity that surrounded BTW and repair Gaga's image.
At this point, that probably isn't even possible anymore.
You sure?
Media draggings, twitter meltdowns, fans jumping ship, low sales, terrible critical acclaim, not even a grammy nomination while a certain song got nominated etc.....
Not being funny, it's hardly sold A.K.A, Britney Jean or MIAMTEC numbers has it? Applause was Top 10 for 14 weeks and Do What U Want would've been up there if she'd released the video. This is hardly the end of her career, is it?

Y'all underestimate Gaga tbh. She's still well liked by the GP. Applause and DWUW are indicators of that. People just didn't want anything to do with ARTPOP album

I know Donnie, and I don't deny it. But the constant negativity wont help neither Gaga or us.
My problem is that the fans demand so much from her, and at the end of the day, Gaga does what she want's to do, but then the fans are dragging her because it's not how they thought it would be.
Her SXSW festival is one of her worst performances EVER
You've got to be kidding. Maybe it's because Gaga was in my state and I was hyped to win tickets to the show (I didn't ), but that was a highlight of the ARTPOP era for me. Sure, I was a bit disappointed at no Venus or G.U.Y. performances and at the overall shortness of her set, but I loved it!

I'm the last person to complain, you know that. People actually call me "the happy police".
I just had to let it all out before going to bed. So, goodnight.

i wholeheartedly agree with this. and tbh in an ideal world BTW/ARTPOP would've been switched.. i think ARTPOP would've done amazingly... like 3 #1s amazing.. and then BTW would've done slightly worse than it did (because of less hype) but still better than ARTPOP as a 3rd era.

She's going to have so much trouble topping Born This Way, at least for me. I've always loved it, and I always will. It's the one album I will always go back to at least once a month to listen to in full, it's so big and dark and emotional, it's the best listening experience from an album I've eve encountered.
She was right when she said we'd appreciate Born This Way afterwards.
Of course. Did the Born This Way era teach us nothing? 'Halfway between fantasy and reality at all times.'
Gaga seriously needs to pull a ***Flawless remix type situation with Sexxx Dreams. A RihMix would be perfect and it can be production and structure wise more like the Swinefest version (no adlibs, slightly slower, original bridge). Just surprise release and lowkey film a video with Rih and put it out. I'd die.
