I wish the Born This Way version we got was the 'free enterprise and self esteem' demo. That needs to leak in full, it slayed. All of Gaga's music is better in demo form, I'm not even ashamed to say it. I love her album versions but she needs to work with a producer who is more sparing with their production*. That's why the Rick Rubin album sounds perfect, even though I know deep down it's another betrayal.
Having said that, one of the aspects that contribute to Born This Way being my favourite album of all time, is that it is loud and overbearing and overproduced. But it worked because it fit with the message. I feel like ARTPOP should have been more tame in some places and louder in others rather than over produced for the whole thing apart from DWUW and ARTPOP (the song), pretty much.
Gaga needs to record an album in 2 weeks length and just release it. No time to sit down and overproduce it or overthink it because with her it seems the first idea was always the best idea. I challenge ha to do it!
The earlier incarnations of BTW probably demolish the one we heard. It isn't a bad song but it just could have been so much better!

I agree completely. I'd love to see her do it. I think part of the reason ARTPOP is below her standard is because she started the album 'the week after Born This Way was released', she played the album to the label in August 2012 - and apparently they loved it and didn't really ask her to change anything - and then carries on changing and producing up until February, then she's wheelchair ridden for another 6 months before releasing Applause in August 2013, and then she carried on visiting the studio until mid-October, so she had 2 and a half years to produce the album.
I bet the album she played for the label in 2012 slayed, and I'm not just saying that, because I do like ARTPOP, but I think she was just left with it for too long.
She needs to make another EP or 10-song album. Something short,
with a defined concept, along the lines of TFM. That's Gaga at her best,
imo. Then again, BTW is the complete opposite and it slays, so idk.
I guess she should just stick to a defined concept and work around it.

I have the exact thoughts. She sat on ARTPOP too long and all that time only made her overthink the album even more. This is even more apparent at Swine Fest, where nearly every song was better there than it was on the album. Simple is the route to go with her.
Nnnnn, Gaga is irrelevant yet her fanbase remains more dedicated than every other pop girl.

What she played at SWINEFEST were literal demos of the songs. They weren't "almost finished and she overproduced". They were literally very rough drafts of the songs that she would have in no way put on the record because they weren't done.
In addition, she didn't tinker with ARTPOP as much as some of you might think. She sat on the record and did nothing to it for months and months and months (at least that's what she told fans).
I can't believe we're actually having a discussion that she shouldn't work on her records now? I mean, I know we don't have much else to talk about, but now we've reduced Gaga down to "be like every other popstar and don't work on your records as much". Messy.

Well, that's the point...the demos were slightly better:

She had been working on ARTPOP for a very long time, and had plenty of time to think about it (as she admitted).

Who said Gaga shouldn't work on her albums? As a matter of fact, I said she should work on her albums for two weeks. That's a lot of work. She's always raving about always writing and producing all the time so I am sure she's capable. Just one or two attempts at making an album alongside a talented producer will help Gaga create a refined album that would probably sound raw and original.
You should open yourself up to criticism about Lady Gaga. Just because fans have different ideas on how Gaga should present her next body of work doesn't mean we think ill of her, just that we want her to bring out her best potential. You cannot have a radio ARTPOP mindset with Gaga.

There's a difference between stating your opinion on how Gaga should go about things, and bashing everything she does. I respect her massively as an artist (that's why I'm posting in here, obviously) but technical critique is essential for every artist. Like with painters or sketchers, they are aloud their own style, but they must make sure their art has a likeness to the source material: Gaga's message, lyrics and melodies are fine, but her and her producers can over produce often.
