The best thing so far this era hasn't been the music or the videos. It's been her walking on a runway.
Which says 2 things:
-The music / videos weren't as strong as they needed to be.
- Like I've said countless times, she is a STAR. All she needs to do is walk next to other girls and she renders them obsolete. She doesn't even need all that other superfluous stuff. If her music is strong, there will be no stopping her and she will kill the competition. But her priorities seem out of order at the moment.
If my memory is good, I do remember her saying in some interview that her music is the only thing that will keep her on top. Not the clothes, not the controversy, but only the music. So she knows damn well that she needs the music to be on top of her game and BTW (album), I'm sure will be on point musically.

But that's the thing... based on what we've heard from/of the album outside of BTW, there's no reason to assume that the music will be subpar. Saying her priorities are out of whack is premature at this point because the era hasn't even really begun. I'd say those are concerns to be raised if Judas is a letdown.

That's the weird thing - she seems totally aware of these criticisms we've thrown at her in the last few pages.
She did say that. She also said that she knew everyone was expecting PF 2.0 or BR 2.0 as the first single off of BTW, and that BTW is clearly not that.
She's addressed the issue of the length of her videos.
Paparazzi and BR were what represented the shift into her ascribing deeper meanings to her songs/videos (although she's been waxing poetic about the philosophical nature of fame in interviews from before JD, that element to her persona has always been there), and those two singles are what really expanded her fanbase, IMO.
If we're talking about musically, the subpar singles since then have been Telephone and BTW (compared to the rest of her singles, that is, I do like BTW). That seems like a lot since there have only been three singles since BR, but it's not like the rest of TFM was subpar, and she's rather hammered on the point that BTW isn't musically like the rest of the album.
I'm not really concerned about the music, and if the concern is her persona overshadowing the music... I mean, the persona has always been there and only became more exaggerated (if anything) at her peak singles (so far) -- Paparazzi/BR.
As of now, I'm buying the **** she rambles on about BTW being the "gateway drug" of the record. Judas will be the determining factor for me though.

Where she's at now, I believe she could retire tomorrow (musically) and still be successful.
She has alot going for her, in so many areas. Other girls couldn't do it - They'd be forgotten by the end of the month.
I refuse to believe that she has reached her peak musically. While TFM was really good, there is so much room for improvement it's not even funny. If she somehow fails to succeed it, then she sucks.
I just like the fact that back in those days she didn't make it a statement that her wig is purple and it's the gay symbol colour.
I don't know if that was her intention, but just an example

She knows all this, but she's not acting on it.
I guess when she wants to do something, she does it, regardless of if that's the best decision for her. She just do it.

I'm with you. Judas song and MV better be on point, because she can't afford, at least for me, to have 3 so-so MV in a roll. The song also has to smash. I will start doubting if Judas MV isn't at the level that we expect from her. I really hope she proves me wrong on this one.
It's hard to say she's made mistakes or that she peaked 2 years ago because she's making more money now than ever before. And by the stats she has more fans too.

Musically, I refuse to believe either. She still has a lot of potential she has yet to tap.
If she doesn't explain her "odd" actions people have a bitch fit. If she explains her actions people complain anyways. She should just do what she wants like she has been. It's been working great.
And Born This Way was a good ass song. that **** has been stuck in my head for centuries. The beats and everything were amazing. I honestly don't know what you heffas want from the bitch!

I'm not here for "good ass songs." I'm here for monster, culture-defining smashes...and that's exactly what I expect from her. I suppose it's a little selfish of me.
I've always been very critical of her and sometimes my criticisms are misconstrued. I think she's better than all the current pop stars combined, so it's sort of a waste to see her not play her cards as well as she could and not realize her full potential.
I've said this about a million times before (), but it really says a lot that she is a pop star who has reached this level of fame without a Max Martin or Dr Luke backing her. The other pop girls could never have done it. On top of that she did it with her looks, in a music genre so dependent on looks (for example, Adele and SuBo being fat has no negative bearing given the type of music they make), so it makes it all the more impressive.

Not everyone song she releases can do that. And if a song that isn't even a standout from the album can be that good and do so well then we have nothing to worry about.
She's explained her decisions and I have faith that she's going slay us harder than ever beginning with Judas

This is why I love her, despite the **** she is getting despite people and "the talk", she is following her artistic vision. You close the door in front of her path and she will break that bitch down or go around it.

I'm all for subjecting even your favorite artists to scrutiny, but I'd rather maintain a realistic outlook more than anything else.
IMO, unwavering pessimism isn't necessarily any more realistic than blind optimism, although I do realize its value as a coping mechanism used to pre-emptively curb disappointment.
