I never said they could. But they could name atleast 1 ('All I Want for Christmas Is You' ofcourse, with #Beautiful being a recent hit just last year).
And yeah, the GP definitely knows Usher, so...
So Mariah will pretty much die a Carly Rae-esque one hit wonder with the rest of her legacy completely erased?
Eventually all our faves will die and centuries will pass. If you really want to talk about "the very far future" and what will be remembered, the music that made the most impact, that influenced the most musicians, that is in the record books, award listings and things like the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame will live on. I don't even have to argue Bruce's discography will be in that category, he already has an album in the National Recording Registry (which preserves albums deemed culturally significant).
There's such a huge disconnect (and I hate making blanket statements) when it comes to American artists and the demographics they touch the most.
I'm black, so no, I did not grow up listening to Madonna. I have aunties who will b0p but that's bout it. It's always been Mariah > her, in the black community. So, I literally sit here & watch ya'll list and re-list ic0nic! L3gendarY! sings, and talk about IMP@CT, and I just cannot relate at all. Maybe it's one of those "you-had-to-be-there" type things, idk. There was more CELINE of all people, played in my household growing up. Gurls like madonnas, Icing, and Sahn (what happened to sister? )are the ones who put me on to Madge's music.
Aside from typical stan stuff (#'s, lists, $$), when ya'll say [insert white female singer here] > Mariah, it just don't not compute in my brain because growing up she was "THE" white female singer used in my household. That's why these debates are so funny. It's not as drastic as an Aaliyah vs. Selena argument, where their demographics were clear cut, but it still makes me chuckle because I know there is always someone with the reverse opinion of mine due to the exact same reasons
Like, Miguel is ALREADY forgotten and ALREADY completely unknown by ANYONE, let alone young people. I don't know why these stans think they can come for anything.

!!!
Like these European girls Slobro, Dream, etc will come on here and call me a LIE when I legit say I didn't know of any Madonna classics before ATRL.
It's just different with America. It's not Europe full of white twinks who listen to the same dance-electro hits.
You have the households who can name 2Pac, Mary, and Whitney but could never name Madonna, Beatles, and Elvis.
It's not a 'Carly-Rae esque' when you have one of the biggest classics of all-time on the levels of 'I Will Always Love You', 'Thriller', etc.
Call Me Maybe is better than all of those songs, so yeah it's kinda Carly Rae-esque.
Mess at her releasing like a dozen albums when she could have just released one Christmas song and be done with it, since apparently the rest of her legacy will be tossed aside.
