It's obvious that she sabotaged that DWUW era, I mean she wanted Venus released and had a whole vision planned out for it: she was going to debut the song on The X Factor, she had outfits planned for it and a video (which would have been amazing going by the artRave visuals) and then Troy went and told her to change to DWUW, at least she tried to create a bit of controversy with the video

Yeah. Remember when she tweeted Carly Rae Jepsen? I bet she thought "A simple, catchy song like CMM is topping the charts all over the world now, so I'll make a song like that" So she made Applause, simple and catchy, with weird verses. Poor Gaga. Applause should've smashed tbh.

Gaga's delusional, but not even she would think that a song about clapping would smash. Hilariously enough, it ended up doing pretty damn well considering what it's about.
But uh, if we're going to say that Gaga deliberately sabotaged her era then we need to be worried about the future, not hopeful. Her doing that would be so incredibly petty and unprofessional. I think what happened was that she just couldn't operate at her best because her heart wasn't in it. Gaga's the type of artist that shuts down when people don't support her, and that's exactly what happened.

That was an obvious joke, though, and was tweeted well before she had even finished the album or was even close to finishing the album.
Pretty sure Gaga's intent was to sabotage the ARTPOP era from the get-go. Interscope interfering and Troy disregarding her vision pretty much cemented that for her as she went along. I mean, from leaking Aura at the very beginning to those awful DWUW performances to basically refusing to promote the entire era to the culmination of her creative rebellion at SXSW, isn't it pretty obvious?
That's why I'm just going to look past the last year and look with hope toward the future. She's a lot smarter than we give her credit for. I just hope she's done making her point and ready to be the queen of pop again.
