@nicole but the ACTING in W2E was better than 95 of "white" movies -critically acclaimed white movies I might add- and when a white woman plays trailer trash(Monster, 8th Mile, Hustle and Flow, etc.) they are praised to the high heavens.
Also nothing was ghetto about any of the women in W2E in FACT they displayed 4 strong, powerful women that life had jilted in some way and their moment of exhalation(hence the title).
There is a big difference between this iconic, classic, incredible film that even Whitney Houston's horrid acting couldn't kill and the filth that Tyler Perry knocks out biannually.
Don't be so quick to judge!
The whole premise behind that is that she spent their marriage trying to be his "white woman" and suppressing herself so he would be happy. I don't know if you noticed, but she wears light colored contacts at the beginning of the movie and spends time at her vanity basically looking empty because she realizes no matter what she does she can't be the woman he wants.
What she did came out of anger, it's who she is, not a stereotype. Did you not hear her rant as she threw his clothes into the car and lit it on fire? She gave up her life for him. There are housewives like that character in the world today OF ALL RACES and there most certainly were back in the 90s for sure.
BIDH and M2S are stereotypes from beginning to end, the average black teen is not a thug.
Spike Lee sucks. Most of his movies are just uber cringeworthy. King Denzel should become a director. Or Samuel L., he's intelligent + a Gaga stan so I'm sure he has the vision to become a director.
Will smith sucks too. Don't fall for the hype.
Spike Lee is overrated. Agreed.

Denzel Washington needs to keep acting. He's still a sex symbol for white women.
Samuel L. Jackson is very slowly turning senile and bitter. He may be over soon.
Jackson should have been nominated for "Black Snake Moan," though.
The best black movies of the 90's are New Jack City, Menace 2 Society(watched this movie for the first time a few weeks ago and was literally shaking/terrified/excited/crying/laughing hysterically the whole time incredible movie), Friday and Waiting to Exhale.

They should have kept those other three veejays. You know 106 was going downhill (it went downhill when AJ and Free left but yeah) when they got Bow Wow as one of the hosts to replace Rocsi and Terrence. Then they get these light-skint nobodies (no colorism because I'm light-skint) to temporarily host the show with Bow Wow after firing those other veejays after a few months on screen.
