I think that comment is in regards to overall lifetime sales. It may be true, but even going platinum today is a feat so this album's legacy is secure. Plus Blank Space and Style are gonna smash and help the album sell.
Napster was not even CLOSE to the scale of pirating these days everyone has a computer now, internet is way faster, and everyone is aware of pirating.

There is a misconception that everyone in the 90s were selling like crazy which wasn't the case, the 1 thing the 90s represented that everyone misses is how all genres were able to succeed and be represented on the billboard hot 100 and go multi platinum.
