I wonder whether Prince's death will complicate the AOTY race next year. Not that I think Prince's last album will get any significant attention, but whereas before Bowie was basically a lock, now that he's no longer the only "legend" to pass this submission period, I don't think honoring his legacy and making up for the years of snubs will be as big of a priority.
Postumous AOTY victories are very rare. The last two were in 2005 and 1982.
