when madonna did it in the 80s it was new and risky
i can't believe you have so much nerve to suggest what gaga did is more important than what madonna did. the doors were already opened by madonna (and a few other people) 20 YEARS before gaga even got famous (oh and when she got famous she wasn't gay friendly herself either. that just happened later when her PR people saw the potential and thats when the madonna comparisons started) NOTHING gaga said is new. all she said & did was done before.
i can't believe i have to say this. you kids from the 00s&90s are clueless

there were gay music icons and important lgbt activists before the 80's and madonna, the nerve of madonna fans trying to make it look as if the lgbt movement progressed mostly because of madonna when it was a COLLECTIVE effort.
and im not suggesting that

im just replying to your point of saying it's safe supporting lgbt rights when clearly it's not because of what i just told you.

at the Madonna haters using "Cher gay icon" when Cher hated that Chaz was transitioning.

changing your biological sex is a little more dramatic than saying you're attracted to the same sex so Cher's reaction is completely valid and warranted, let's not act like she hasn't been a very prominent and important ally for all of her life
Azealia Banks has not done for women as what Madonna has done for women and she only feels the need to post this because SHE was involved in a personal altercation then twisted to story to say she was attacked when there's literally video evidence proving otherwise, where she even makes it seem much less dramatic than what she described afterwards
so this comparison is really, really poor

if anything it was cher's public acceptance of her son being trans that have allowed people like caitlyn to transition. cher ha lgbt impact! lgbt goddess!
