The album is well on its way to selling a million and with more singles in the works, it will sell more. When put into perspective with her other albums, it is true that the sales figures may be disheartening. But the fact of the matter is that the album is still doing well by today's standards.

Rihanna has taken a sure risk with releasing 'Russian Roulette' and 'Hard', even I at first was disappointed at the singles performances but then I thought, why would I care? These two singles are nothing like Rihanna has released before and she probably wont release like them in the future, so I should enjoy them until they last!
Actually I would venture to guess that Rated R's album sales are not disappointing. I wasn't here back in the GGGB era to track it's sales every week, but that album only spent one week in the Top 10 before it was re-released (after which it spent one more) so Rated R's week-by-week sales are probably on par with GGGB's. Rihanna was never a huge album seller compared to how many successful singles she has.
