I don't think music videos account for many sales
they just boost the streaming numbers
at least I never understood the huge deal around MVs
sure MTV is gonna play it more thus more people will hear it, but it's not like MTV plays music videos anymore and people are not gonna go out of their ways to look MVs on YouTube (unless it goes virals like Miley's WCS)
Last Friday Night's video effect was madness. It shot up from the 40's to #1 in a matter of hours.

Then of course promo on Twitter/Facebook plus Youtube ads for people who do search Youtube for music (aka the hundreds of million different lyric videos for every song on Earth). They provide a boost in some sort of way, and in Katy's case her premiere will help her positively whether in increasing her numbers again, staying stable or seeing a relatively small drop.
