It's not surprising, really. The original post had valid points, but they criticized a
"signature" instead of focusing on the meaning of the post. Typical behaviour from a typical source.
Good for you for voicing your opinion, Venus.

There was a clip from her at the M.B. when she called a fan from the audience and she just assumed he was gay. I forgot her exact quote but I recall her telling him to tell his family & friends he was "born that way"
There's also the time when U.S. soldiers remade 'Telephone' which was a big parody on Youtube. Gaga said she didn't re-tweet it or make mention of it because she didn't want to put more attention on the video out of fear of getting them in trouble with the DADT policy. She assumed they were gay men simply because they remade her video. That's supporting a stereotype. She's also thanked her "gay fans" for remaking her video for Bad Romance while completely ignoring her straight fans...like she always does. She puts too much of an emphasis on sexuality.
dssmdk sorry for the essay but I have a lot to say.

I agree with this 100%.

Honestly, all that sounds like a personal problem.
I listen to rappers and singers who NEVER acknowledge their gay fans but that doesn't bother me.

Yes! This also a big issue. She acts as if though her straight fans do not exist.

The original OP left out that bit, however I changed it as it was not my intention to come across as the whole group.

So do the countless gay beatings, hangings et al of the 1960s and 1970s (detailed in Milk if you're a lazy **** who can't even Wiki something) have no effect then? Not enough for you? Not serious enough?

"Civil Rights movement" doesn't just refer to the Civil Rights Movement for African Americans in the 60s.
It's not a proper noun - it's not one specific movement. It's any movement in which people are fighting for human rights.
And you didn't answer my question regarding whether you've voted every year that you've been able to.

They believe that we have to bow down to the homophobes and act more "straight" so they can see that "we're just like them!" and that will fix everything.
The ignorance is unbelievable.

Ok let me begin picking apart this mess.

It seems to me like YOU are the one making assumptions. Never has she said all her male fans are gay. Never.

Are you talking about the part where she told him he looked fabulous, then thought better of it and was very ashamed and asked if he was straight, and then cracked up when he replied "Bitch please?" That quote about her assuming a fan was gay, which she immediately corrected, and then was proven right anyway?

Do you understand how DADT worked? People weren't allowed to "tell," meaning display any gay qualities. The ARMY would have assumed those soldiers were gay, and taken their video as them "telling," and they would have been investigated. One of the major problems with DADT was that it didn't actually matter if people were gay; it was being used as a tool to start witch hunts against people who didn't conform, regardless of sexuality

How does being vocal about something do more harm than good? Other oppressed groups didn't achieve what they wanted by being passive.

Her message is ALWAYS about being yourself, no matter what. Everyone is singing about that topic but Gaga has a bigger and stronger following from the LGBT than any of them, so...

First of all, this is 2012 not 1960, not 1970. We are different as a society. Honestly, the gay beatings can happen to any high school student who is different from the rest.

I offer my condolences. That is usually the generalization used when people use the term. Even, the American gay rights movement has been much easier than other civil rights movement.
Also my condolences for not answering your question. Yes, I vote whenever possible but I only vote if I am able to know enough about what I am voting for.

But you were the one referencing the black civil rights movement, which happened quite a few years ago. Which era are you in, now?
edit: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_Night_riots
read up, that's just one of many instances. I clearly wasn't trying to claim high schoolers as the motivation behind a movement for equal rights that's been going on for longer than you or I have been alive.

First of all, regarding police: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stonewall_riots
Second, regarding "straights only" bathrooms: Bathrooms are assumed to be Gender Conforming Only. What are transgendered people supposed to do?
Did you know that in most states, you can legally be fired if your boss doesn't like that you're gay?
Did you know that in most states, you can legally be kicked out of your house if your landlord doesn't like that you're gay?
Think about it this way: Black people were/are minorities within society. Gay people are invisible minorities within their own families. I'm not saying gay people have it worse, I'm saying that both are very bad and can be compared.

Basically. I love Gaga but that's one of several aspects that annoys me with her. I don't stan for her as much as I use to, now I'm just a causal fan. People in general say one's sexuality shouldn't matter because it doesn't define that person, which is true. But Gaga always puts such an emphasis on sexuality, it's ****ing annoying.
And she always says I want to thank my " GAY fans" -- why can't we just be fans? why does she have to inject sexual orientation in front of fans making sexuality the main focus.
