Is it really certified gold? Even if it is, maybe it's based on shipments? Like when Ariana's My Everything was certified platinum when it wasn't even at 500k?

The album sales are decreasing with every passing moment, and streaming is becoming bigger. If anything, it will be a better representation of an album's success.
Because Nielsen Soundscan came out in 1991 and wasn't fully comprehensive of the album charts until 2006
RIAA was used to quantify the sales of albums prior to 2006. And now that those albums are getting ****ed up (see: Thriller), it's going to mess up actual sales estimates.
It's ridiculous that for RIAA 1 on-demand audio stream (free tier or premium) = 1 on-demand video stream. Someone needs good math course. Albums/singles certifications are about money not music popularity as BB charts (that's why RIAA counted ANTi 'sales' ) - but it's ok if we look at whole industry. But why they don't understand that there's a few different types of streaming... M-E-S-S
Audio streams yes, but viewing a music video and lyric video can make an album Platinum? RIAA is a joke.
