At first I was annoyed at the announcement of
X & Y. The Hoenn games are my favourite, and I had my heart set on the remakes, especially because that followed the same routine as previous generations.
Then came the first trailer. The new graphics were scary. They were cool, but they are obviously so different from what we're used to. I really didn't know what to think, and I was more on the "I don't like them" side. Also, Froakie looks really weird and I was upset that I don't like the water type starter, since they are usually my favourite. As for right now, my favourite starter is Chespin.
The announcement of the new forme Mewtwo was also a slap in the face, because it felt like they were tampering with a legacy (everyone knows the story of Mewtwo and Mew) and once again, I didn't know what to think.
HOWEVER; right now I am really, really excited for these games. With the new trailers, new Pokemon, new gameplay, and (basically confirmed) new type, this is a huge overhaul for Pokemon. I've been playing since Gen 2 (
Gold was my first game, even though I went back and I've played from R/B/Y to B/W), and I feel like everything was set in stone from that Generation onwards.
Dark and Steel were already present when I started playing, so the introduction of Fairy will be the first time a new type has been introduced for me. I know I said recently that the introduction of a new type would be very messy, and I still think that. But I'm looking at this from a more positive view, and I have to admit that the introduction of Fairy making Poison useful for the first time in 6 Generations has swayed my opinion a bit. My baby Arbok will now have some use in the game.
The customisation and introduction of darker skinned playable characters is wonderful. It never affected me, but I'm really glad for those people who were waiting all this time for that specific feature. The use of diagonal walking will be weird at first, but I'll get used to it. Also, the graphics are looking MUCH better now, compared to the first time they were revealed. Or maybe it's because I've gotten used to them, I'm not sure. Also, how awesome that we can ride Pokemon!
I'm so excited for these games. It all feels like such a huge revolution for Pokemon. They are wiping the slate clean, and building upon the foundation in an awesome way. Pokemon was the first love of my life before music, and I'm just happy that I'm witnessing something so epic. We just know that Pokemon is going to break records with these games.
I still want my damn Hoenn remakes, though.
