That said, I do think Hillary's more of a moderate than Obama. The main problem is that she's painted as some extreme left politician who killed a bunch of people and [insert the Clinton "scandal" of the day] by the right. And this overwhelmingly negative image of her is pushing the moderates towards Sanders.
I personally don't like Hillary, but she's not as bad as Fox News says she is and I'd probably vote for her in the general versus any of the Republican candidates (and especially against Trump or Cruz). I do prefer Sanders more, and I think he'd be able to get more support from the moderates than Hillary due to her reputation even though Fox News will surely run with the "SANDERS IS A COMMUNIST AND WANTS TO TAKE EVERYONE'S EVERYTHING AWAY" thing which will probably happen regardless of the Democratic candidate.

Bernie's biggest issue is no one is targeting him. Bernie fans right now have been freaking out that Hillary has been "attacking" him and are outraged when all she's done is state the differences between their proposed healthcare reform. She said his wouldn't build on top of Obamacare because it would be an entirely new thing (fact), that he hasn't explained the details of how he would implement it (again, fact), and that her proposed method would be more pragmatic (again, true). With this in mind, Hillary has been under attack since before she began campaigning. The Republicans have only focused on Hillary. Should he win the nomination, they are going to come for him and all of his skeletons in the closet (which has a ton of) will come to haunt him and they will turn him into a communist.
