Fairly certain Max has largely ceded the duty of vocal melody to the likes of Savan Kotecha and Bonnie McKee. He might help with them, but he's certainly not the only one responsible for them nowadays.

I really don't think Max ever does lyrics these days; most songwriters have little lyrical and melodic quirks and specific recurring themes they return to, even if it's done subconsciously. I've never spotted any more than a passing hint of that in any of Max's songs.
