I live for how Trump praised Hillary, Bill, and Obama yet insulted everyone in the Republican Party during the election.
Yeah sure let's ignore the whole "Crooked Hillary"/"nasty woman"/hiring a special prosecutor, inviting Bill's accusers to the debate, and the whole birtherism with Obama. What he did involving those three were a lot worse than any comment he directed at the GOP field.
WOW Bernie Sanders just said the Obama administration did nothing for the poor that is why HRC lost..... He also said that a lot of people do not think the Democratic party is standing with them, that has got to change.
WOW I mean sure HRC shouldn't have campaigned with Barack because clearly people think they have gained nothing from his administration but BERNIE now going on TV blasting Barrack ....It disgusts me so much how he is gloating and rubbing this loss on Clinton and Obama's faces
So you want him to be polite rather than help the party see the err of their ways and save themselves during the midterms?
Bernie is the only Democrat with a true vision for the future of the party. His NYT Op-Ed proves that he's not just there for money or power and is ready to regroup and win the midterms and nominate a strong candidate that young people and the working class can get behind. He knows that it's time to stop alienating voters and get rid of the older, established, centrist Clintonian leaders.
Where are the charismatic members of the DNC? The way people hyped up Warren I expected her to be one of them, but her speech at the convention was terrible. She could still probably do well but I think rhe DNC should generally focus on that a bit more. The one thing Bill, Trump, Bernie, Obama, and Biden had in common was charisma and great speaking ability. Kerry and Hillary weren't great in that regard and it hurt them significantly.
Finding younger people/women/etc. who fit that mold would be great for the party in the long run regardless of 2020 candidates. Plus, we will need them for 2018. Tammy Duckworth is a great example-- she's captivating and interesting which got her national attention. I don't see Cory Booker in that category. He is kind of awkward. I honestly don't see it for him in any way. Maybe as VP but even that's a stretch

Elizabeth Warren's platform is great, but yeah, she is pretty boring. She's very-principal like... I just can't see her connecting with people. If you're blissfully unaware of her politics, she just seems like another politician. I fear Trump would beat her. I'm not sure if she's the right person to rally the Obama coalition or bring back white working class voters... even though I would personally love her
Same with Cory Booker tbh. He seems like Obama lite... like, I'm surprised more wasn't made of his convention speech in comparison to Obama's in 2004. He literally ripped large parts out and used it as his own. Melanie Trump teas. He has dodgy links to financial industries as well, and just seems a lot more establishment than Obama ever did.
If Jason Kander won the Senate race in Missouri, he would be the favourite to get the Dem nomination in 2020. He's pretty progressive, a veteran, pretty charismatic, and fresh looking (), and seems to have no baggage. This was literally the best political ad I've ever seen:
The best hope for the Dems in 2020 is Kamala Harris or Julian Castro in my opinion. I completely disagree the Dems need a white male unless its a white male (like Kander) that would have a significant impact.
not true at all the situations were not even similar at all
in 2008 the DNC was an unbiased arbiter of the Democratic primary and did not try to tip the scale in anyone's favor - despite the fact that the Chairman of the DNC in 2008 was Nancy Pelosi, a close personal friend of Hillary Clinton's
in 2008 they chose the candidate with more enthusiasm and momentum behind them - instead of the candidate that they felt had "paid their dues to the party" - and that's why we won
If you read the wikileaks emails you see that HRC and Pelosi are really just two democrats who get along . Not friends .... even her advisors warned her of trusting Pelosi during one of the emails because she apparently cannot be "trusted ".

(1) that's not relevant to the overall point I was making
(2) both Hillary and Pelosi have referred to each other as friends more than once

I mostly agree with this. I see people mention Kamala a lot but I know anything about her besides the fact that she's a biracial woman. Are her politics progressive? Has she done anything interesting? Identity politics with no substance won't work, but I def agree that rallying behind white males as a safe option isn't smart. Overall potential candidates need to be inspiring with substance to back it up.
I loved Julian at the 2012 convention and I'm here for him running whether he wins or not. Such a gorgeous family and a great speaker.
I spent a couple hours watching videos of Kamala Harris yesterday....she's a really good speaker (not in the soaring way that Obama is) but she's very good at connecting to an audience and personalizing conversation. I like that about her and I think she'd be a strong candidate. She and Duckworth are both tough but Tammy is not great at giving speeches (at least from what I've seen) although her debate performances are pretty impressive.
I don't think we'll see a politician with the amount of charisma that Obama has for a very long time. That being said, the Dems would be smart to just make way for an open field of candidates, let them duke it out, get rid of the superdelegates and let the people gravitate to whichever candidate connects best.

She is also hesitant to take stances. .....looked at her record and I was like ohk.
She's known as a progressive, yeah. But... an Obama-progressive, she's obviously 'establishment' too. Bizarrely doesn't like weed legislation though. I assume we'll learn more now she's in the Senate. It's probably a good thing she hasn't been firm on her stances - she doesn't have much baggage and can unite people behind a common platform going forward.
Seems pretty charismatic and a good speaker to me!
Everybody should keep in mind that in 4 years it may not be an anti-establishment message that resonates with people. In fact, I would be surprised it that messages works. Trump isn't 'establishment' so if he fails people won't be looking for more of that, if he succeeds, he will own the anti establishment narrative.
I think in the next election, folks will want someone who's message is a lot more optimistic
