No music that is made today is original in itself because everything has been done in one way or another.All you can do is add your vision which you have agreed she has.
If the charts and radio were dominated by hardcore scream metal then that would definitely give Katy's music more character because she'd use her own personality to break what the masses want.
But there is no comparison between Lana and Katy anyway.
