for an all-out pop album, the lyrics on 1989 are fine. sure, taylor references cliched things but at the same time her lyrics actually have personality and a sense of intimacy/idiosyncrasy. she does have a talent for writing (coming from a complete non-stan) and it just shows how poor people are at assessing these types of things when they try and make out that loose is the bottom of the barrel

Lana obviously bases her lyrics on classic archetypes but she manges to clearly weave in her stories and personality into it.And if you think that is no impressive feat for a songwriter please listen to Wildest Dreams by Taylor to see the difference and the direct proof it is difficult

lana has no personality on her songs. everything is about the bad boyfriend and the abused girlfriend who is submissive to the point where we don't care nor do we even know much about her character, because the way lana writes is so much about trying to please her boyf. if you think throwing around americana imagery like a prostitute gassing herself with layers of perfume evokes 'personality' then you clearly have no idea
