The inauguration incident did literally nothing to her public image, her brand, or her selling power, both in the short run and the long run.

It didn't hurt her because she redeemed herself with "any questions?" and the Superbowl. There was still initial backlash.

But Bey herself or people truly affiliated with her never said a single word about anything, hence there is no evidence to support the album scrapping theory when there was never a release plan in place (unless you're a part of her team and you know the inside scoop)

I'm not redefining it. Backlash , in its definition, means a large and strong opposition. The "opposition" to Bey's inauguration performance was neither large or strong.

Something that can be shut down with one public appearance isn't backlash. It's mild bad publicity. What happened to the Dixie Chicks is backlash. What happened to Janet is backlash. What's happening to Gaga is backlash. Backlash is strong enough to grind your career to a halt.
