There have been songs suspiciously getting huge streams with no promotion whatsoever. Cheerleader, Lean On, Firestone, and now Zara "men should be killed" Larsson... (I'm talking about when those songs were literally first released, Kygo, Omi, Felix Jaehn did NOT have millions of fans at the time...).
Most of the songs to benefit have been pretty good, but it makes no sense. I can kind of understand with Lean On because the three artists on the song were famous beforehand, but doing so well on Spotify immediately after release was suspicious to me. It must be because big playlists added those songs.

I'm not saying Spotify payola doesn't exist but most of these songs rose on Spotify as they were getting more airplay worldwide. The big playlists definitely help. One thing tho, if this was to get out, the GP might be turned off by it and stop using these playlists. My guess is these songs are curated by a group of people, kinda like how BBC Radios make their playlists every week.
And for Zara, she already had few hit songs before Lush Life, she already had a good international following. In fact, she even has more Spotify followers than Bey, Katy and Gaga. She's huge in Europe where Spotify is king so her songs rising on Spotify are probably not due to payola.
Finally, like iHype pointed out few days ago, people check the Global chart and the US charts and probably few other countries, if a song is smashing everywhere esle but your country, you might be tempted to give it a listen.

Saturday TSOS 7,329,343 (+129,830 from Friday). This song has to be close to reaching the Top 200, because TSOS is mostly local (#200 has 101,255). YouTube 8,928,128 (+232,536 from Friday). This song is accelerating!

I'm trying to get an Active Rock crossover, since we are WAY overdue. Shinedown's "Second Chance" was seven years ago, and I don't know if we've ever gone this long without a song crossing over from Active Rock in mainstream music history.

Disturbed are signed to Warner. Warner doesn't have a contract with VEVO, that's why their artists' videos aren't on there. Coldplay's videos aren't on VEVO either

Coldplay's, Wiz Khalifa's, Major Lazer's. Wiz & Major reached 1b but they aren't diamond certificated because they aren't on vevo. I talk to VEVO and they sais it's Warner's fault - VEVO wants Warner on their site, but Warner still is refusing to go with them.

Diamond certificated where? In the US? That's for 10 million sold singles or 1B streams from the US. Or any combination of that. 1B worldwide streams doesn't get you diamond... Not being on Vevo isn't a problem though. Just Youtube is fine.
See You Again and Lean On were both extremely global songs. So they don't have quite as much US streams.

Yeah, I don't think it's a big deal. Vevo is a great platform but at the end of the day, they only miss out on few millions views.
Warner's not on Vevo because they didn't like Vevo's terms. They probably just want more money. But I read something on HDD saying that Warner might join Vevo soon.

Hopefully Warner and VEVO reach an agreement soon. This would help all of the label's artists.
