Which of her previous singles does BTW sound like?

Let's not with the Gaga shade. But let's also not with the acting like her singles aren't radio friendly.

Catchy hooks and a chorus are pretty much apart of every pop song That doesnt mean they will get spun on radio.

Many are, but if you listened to Poker Face/Bad Romance/Born This Way before they got popular I don't know if you'd think they were easy smashes (maybe in the case of BTW, because it was her comeback, but talking about just based on the sound of the song).

The meltdowns people had the first day Bad Romance came out describing it as terrible and the career ending single of Gaga's career confirm this

Melody wise, BTW stands on its own, as far as her past single choices. However by now, im pretty sure that many can spot a Red One production. As far as structure of the song, she hasnt veered too far off how she sings the song. Her choruses are like chants. (PF, BR, BTW, Telephone). I like her subtle sounding songs Alejandro and Paparazzi, as far as how she sings it.

It depends on what you would personally define as "pure dance", in terms of synth-powered pop Timbaland pretty much set up the standard there but even prior to that there was material that was well received even before then with Rihanna (S.O.S.), and Missy Elliott (Lose Control) that likely showed that progression towards a more dance dominated sound.
Even Gaga herself admitted that she used Loose as the blueprint for her work on the Fame. You could argue that Gaga brought a more euro-style to the charts stateside but even that seems contradictory because as I said before Rihanna and Britney both did that with their singles from Good Girl Gone Bad (Don't Stop The Music, Disturbia) and Blackout (Gimme More, Piece Of Me). Gaga didn't inspire the trend, she saw the writing on the wall and used it to her advantage just like Ke$ha did in 10'. It's almost always the case that the people who start the trend tend to see the least success from it.

Well, Born This Way doesn't necessarily fit the mold of radio friendly. I mean, she says "gay," "lesbian," and "transgendered" all in the same song. That's not exactly the biggest forumla for huge success, after all. But I get your point.
|
Lyrics aren't as important as the production and the sound. BTW has a euro-dance sound that straight out of the 90's. I wouldn't say that is really out of place in the current dance setting. Especially when the songs out right now are currently sampling old dance hits like Lambada. How would a 90's euro-dance song sound out of place on the radio now?

Love Game, Bad Romance, and Poker Face are not what I would consider radio friendly songs at the time of their release
|
LoveGame was arguably, the safest release off the entire album. It was just that basic, in terms of sound. The song itself was very safe. There have already been posts said about how similar JD and PF are so I will leave that to there. Bad Romance may have been different since it was more dance orientated and had more of a 90's musical structure, however again it's still dance music. It wasn't Metallica. How would it not be considered radio friendly in a very dance music climate?

GaGa should be able to get some time @ #1 before S&M (which is almost definently heading towards #1).

I can agree with that, just like the point I made about late-90s Pop/Britney.

I think every chorus of a song sounds like a chorus of a song...

IMO, BTW and Poker Face are both really catchy pop songs - which would easily take off and smash on radio. Maybe not so much in the case of BR but at the same time it's not like that song is Hugely different than anything else on pop radio. It's very unique, but it still has a lot of recurring qualities that would rack up the spins.

Well, as people have said, every pop song is going to aim for catchy hooks/beats. I can't think of another recent pop song that has the general sound of BR.

she could have fooled me. I just like variety. I want her to give me a 180. The thing I like about Stargate with Rihanna, is that her songs dont sound the same. I m not a fan of an artist always working with the same producer (Kesha, Rihanna, Lady Gaga). But as long as they sound different , then Im fine with it. Some producers can do that , some cant.

BR doesn't necessarily sound a lot like anything else, but at the same time that doesn't mean that it won't be a hit.

That's because Gaga isn't only involved in the writing her songs' lyrics, but also their melody. So if they sound similar despite the different producers, it's because they actually are her songs. A bit of a pop rarity, I know.

Why people are trying to downplay Gaga's achievements tho?
Don't you think 7 #1s outta 8 singles on Mainstream Pop Radio are impressive??
