Genuinely don't think anything I just said in that post was incorrect though. Don't see any other reason why they'd be given microphones to perform if not to make it seem like they were singing live.

It's clearly obvious when someone is lipsyncing. It just simply looks better to at least mime or have a microphone. I don't think they're trying to "fool" anyone by having a microphone.
It's just like miming along to a song in a music video. Everyone knows it's a studio version, but the artist still sing along to the song.
Videos where artists don't sing along with the song (like Maroon 5 Maps or Iggy's Black Widow) can be seen as annoying because the artist isn't singing along to the song, even if it's obvious they aren't really singing anyways.
Same with live stages. Even if you know it's lipsynced, it still looks better to at least have a microphone and mime the words
