Heartbreaker was probably the first song I was consciously exposed to Mariah with. Obviously, like many others, I grew up with Mariah songs playing through my house and my parents always played her. But with Heartbreaker, I understood who Mariah was and loved the record. I can still remember it being on TRL.
Before we move on to Glitter, I want to say that Rainbow is criminally underrated, I like it more than the overrated Daydream. My problem with Daydream is that the amazingness ends after Always Be My Baby with all those mellow ballads that sound the same, while Rainbow manages to stay cohesive with addictive bops and outstanding ballads. Heartbreaker, Can't Take That Away, Bliss, Heartbreaker Remix, Crybaby, Petals, Rainbow Interlude, Thank God I Found You >>>>>>>>>>>> The 2nd half of Daydream.

My least favorite Mariah album by farrrrr. It just sounds like her biggest attempt at trying hard or something, I don't know. Aside from the flawless Heartbreaker and the Bianca character, and the sales, this is my least favorite album.
I really want to LOVE this album, but I just don't. Crybaby, Bliss, Heartbreaker Remix, Did I Do That, and How Much are all songs I enjoy.
I feel bad for Mariah with this album because you could sense her Breakdown coming around this time.Columbia acted like they didn't give two ***** about her even though she had 2 Number One hits during this era. Her voice got worse, and overall I'd say this was a more successful version of Glitter Era for her.
She looked great during this time and it's crazy how she was 29/30 looking like she was 22/23. I don't think the album is as good as it could have been compared to what she gave on Butterfly, and Daydream, and although I don't use TGIFY the album should have did better.
I agree with you on this. I'd even say her breakdown started lowkey during the #1's era, something wasn't right with her that era, she looked tired and disappointed, it wasn't the same confident and full of life Butterfly era Mariah. Coincidentally, she started planning Glitter around that time, and had to delay it because Columbia wanted a greatest hits and another studio album. The pressure from the label started to get to her, which is why by the time of Rainbow's release she started to show an erratic behavior and ended up having a breakdown during the Glitter era.

Since when do Melt Away, The Interlude or Looking In sound the same?

Long Ago, Forever, The Interlude and Looking In would be the most "outstanding" songs from the 2nd half of Daydream, but they still aren't masterpieces. Then you have I Am Free, When I Saw You and Melt Away which are the epitome of forgettable, Mariah's songwriting is A+ but the melodies and production simply don't stand out, that's why I say Daydream is an overrated album since it's not the flawless masterpiece Mariah stans say it is, Mariah's true magnum opus is Butterfly which is a truly filler-free masterpiece.
