Even if you can't credit her with starting the trend full-stop (which is why I said you could argue), she definitely brought it a long way.

"Just Dance" was straight-up generic pop&b, it was tailor-made for American radio. Colby O' Donis and Akon already had hits out in 2008 that sounded just like it. "Poker Face" was definitely unlike anything else on airwaves though.

Gaga didn't bring dance music back, the tide and trend was already shifting before JD started blowing up. We could see it in the material for Rihanna, Britney, and also the slightly more dance sound that was found in Dr. Luke productions with Katy (Hot N Cold) and P!nk (So What).

So true!!! Nelly, Justin & Timbaland made it!
and "Poker Face" and "Boom Boom Pow" were the one that started the new dance revolution IMO

TikTok also had crossover elements. A girl rapping being one of them. It was huge on the majority of formats.

Who exactly said that "Just Dance" was "too" dance to get played at radio? How was "Just Dance" any more "dancy" than "Don't Stop The Music," "S.O.S.," "Sexyback," etc? I think most radio DJs were hesitant to play it because GaGa wasn't established or too new compared to the other artists who were experimenting with the dance sound during that time. It couldn't have been "too" dancy if it got some spins at Urban radio.

Girl, you better preach it.

But "Poker Face" and "Just Dance" sound exactly alike.
You can literally put the vocals from "Just Dance" onto the instrumental of "Poker Face," and it doesn't sound that different from "Just Dance" by itself. I still don't get why people aren't hearing this! It's about as plain as the nose on your face!
Gaga did not start the dance craze on pop radio, and radio was not reluctant to play Gaga because of how "Just Dance" sounded too dancy. "S.O.S.," "SexyBack," "Womanizer," "Don't Stop the Music," and many other songs before "Just Dance" were hits on radio, and they all had dance influences in them too. Radio didn't want to play Gaga at first because who the hell knew who Lady Gaga was before "Just Dance"? NOBODY! Radio doesn't pick up on new artists right away. Look how long it took "TiK ToK" to become a huge hit. "I Kissed a Girl" is the same way. I'm pretty sure even "...Baby One More Time" took awhile before it finally took off. The list could go on forever! Really, people need to stop giving Gaga credit for things she didn't do. She did not start the dance craze, she was not held off from radio because of her music, she is not the most original thing on the planet. She DID break records, she DOES wear strange outfits, she DID blow up over 2010, and she WAS one of the biggest artist of 2010 with one of the biggest hits. You should only give credit where credit is due. Giving credit where credit isn't due makes you look like an idiot.

I'd heard that before, I thought it was in reference to z100, but maybe I'm wrong. *shrug* Was there anything like PF in recent hits before before her? I dunno.
I think she at least helped in making dance without R&B influence more viable on the charts. JD/PF were quite bigger hits than any of those songs before them, and I don't know that you'd listen to PF and be able to think "This will smash the charts!" I know I didn't, at least.

What about "Forever" and "Disturbia?" The only thing R&B about those songs were probably the artists (Rihanna being R&B is certainly debatable), but those were straight up dance songs, especially "Forever."

^Exactly! Just because Rihanna and Chris Brown are black does not mean that their music isn't straight up pop. "Forever" and "Disturbia" are about as pop as you can get.
Goodness. Come on, people. Gaga did NOT start the dance trend. She helped it along, but she did NOT start it. If "Poker Face" was the first song of its kind, then I'm the king of the world.

"Forever" I'd give you, not sure about "Disturbia." I think it may be more appropriate to describe Gaga as being the culmination of a trend that, by being much bigger than most of the dance songs before her, she helped push it forward in a big way.
It's like how Britney herself didn't kick off the late-90s pop craze. There were the precursors with Spice Girls and Backstreet Boys coming before, but I think by her being so big she did kick off a wave of imitators that pushed the trend forward.

This! Gaga did not start it, but she did help capitalize it.

Most definitely. GaGa was the artist to see the most success from the sound and took it to the next level. But I'm pretty sure in the future, she will be given credit for bringing it back or starting it. It usually happens like that. I think most of us know that isn't the case.

No, they don't. Don't confuse opinion with fact. They really don't parallel each other in any significant way.
