It's 21 where I live which is ridiculous, I don't think I've met one persons in college who doesn't drink and party on the weekend. I do think 18 is a good legal age tho. Especially since we are supposedly adults at that age.

Yeah I guess making it illegal does prevent EVERYONE from getting it thus lessening the amoung of young people who drink - which is admittedly good. Still don't think its that effective though.

I don't think alcohol should be illegal but I'm confused why there are people saying that legalizing drugs like cocaine and meth will benefit anyone. Legalizing them would allow much easier access to it and crime rates would literally sky rocket because they work in tandem lol.

Neither is marijuana. Everything can (and will) be abused by ignorant and irresponsible people. The point is that if we allow something as dangerous as alcohol, why not marijuana, which is significantly less dangerous?

All that being said, at least we're taking the right steps toward legalization of marijuana. I'm sure in about a decade it will be the same as buying a bottle of beer/liquor at the store.

I agree. One of the most interesting things I have done was visiting a community project in Austria. It was a village, where everything was made by weed. From drinks, food, creams, clothes etc and it showcased that weed has many good aspects. People going off limits, that's a personal matter, I agree. So legalising it everywhere is normal.
And it was interesting to try everything with weed as the main base. The presenter was showing how the original Levi's jeans were produced in the beginning by use the weed material and after it was made illegal, it was replaced by cotton. And the clothes were better, because they keep you warm in winter and make you avoid sweating in summer. Medical use etc

Actually crime goes down the more you legalize drugs.

Imagine if California legalized weed Prison rates would go hella down. Also the gangs revolving around the hard drug trade wouldn't be illegal anymore, thus less crime.

The fact that drugs are illegal actually increases crime rates.... because the drug is illegal, among other reasons. regulating a drug WOULD make it safer to use because when the drug is illegal a lot of the time the trade now is supplied by people who use unsafe means (CARTELS).

You are so misinformed. The only reason why marijuana is illegal is because the tobacco companies were afraid that it would become a cash crop and run them out of business. They started to create adds that said that marijuana made white women fall in love with black men. That's it. All the "harmful effects" were made up as well.

Because it's too ingrained in society now. There'd be uproar if it were illegalized, and most people would continue doing it anyway.

If alcohol were a newly discovered drug, it'd definitely be made illegal, but it's too late now that everybody is doing it, and has been for a very long time. The best they could do is try and gradually phase it out over a few decades like a lot of the world is currently doing with tobacco, but you can't outright make a drug that most of the population use illegal overnight. It just wouldn't work.
