Coming out is placating the heterosexuals of the world. NO ONE should have to explain themselves or their sexual orientation for the sake of pleasing their loved ones.
The sooner the gays realize this, the sooner we'll be accepted as true functioning members of society.

That's not the point. What you said was really hurtful in general

n why can't all the gays just come out by ****ing dudes and having someone just casually find out
|
because it just doesn't work like that.
"casually finding out" might mean gossip and leading to ears the gay person didn't plan on telling.
coming out is about a single individual. no one else should have a say or opinion about when or why they should come out.

No, refusing to disclose your sexuality and "blending in" as a heterosexual is placating the heterosexuals of the world.

For what tho? The whole notion of 'coming out' is so overrated and unnecessary.

You say with the privilege of someone who has lived in NYC for most (all?) of their life.

"disgusting elderly gays"
you think that is okay? really?
and you're right: ". NO ONE should have to explain themselves or their sexual orientation for the sake of pleasing their loved ones"
but unfortunately society and family "values" never paved the way for this to be possible,
you're not gay so you really have no clue what you're talking about.

I disagree with this on like, every level dude!
Coming out is such a problematic gesture, and we've all been socialized to believe that it's somehow ESSENTIAL to our being.
I came out, and it was the most stupid and useless gesture I could've done. Some people figured, some people didn't, but most importantly no one actually gave a **** if I was ****ing dudes or not.
Maybe my perspective is different, and I'm privileged because I'm a Canadian, but I think coming out is such a 90s thing.

Hahaha oh not, I'm not saying blend in.
GRAB your boyfriend's ass in public.
Bring a dude to Christmas dinner without telling your parents!
Make out with a hot doctor on the subway!
Normalize it! Don't blend in, but don't grant heterosexuals the satisfaction of BEGGING for their approval through coming out, because that's the subtext of every coming out gesture.

This is easy to say when you're still a child and have no idea what life will be like even in a year's time. Btw, men don't even hit their sexual prime till their 30s, so you'd be missing a pinnacle of youth by killing yourself so young.

so you are gay?
you live in a fantasy world. I'm glad it worked out for you like that.
but clearly there was a point in time you felt like you needed to come out. the only reason why you regret doing it is because you had a fairly positive outcome... not everyone gets that.
once again, coming out, being yourself, living your life as a gay man is different for every individual.

It's not an act of courage if you create the situation for yourself

Living in NYC doesn't have anything to do with my opinion on the issue. And I grew up in a west indian family so there was never any "privilege" regarding my sexuality.
I just don't see the point of having to publicly disclose my sexual orientation because I exist in the perceive minority of sexual preferences.

I'm sorry, how old are you?
I'm 20, almost 21. I think I know where my life is going. No one and no thing is worth getting old
I'm sorry that my REVOLUTIONARY way of thinking is a bit much for the gays here. Keep coming out if it makes you feel better, but never seek approval from the heterosexuals. They are the enemy.

In some (more like many) cases, what you said causes disapointment, shock, heart attacks, violance, and maybe sometimes even death.
I dunno, but i think you have just been lucky with everyone who now knows you are gay.
