Death at RTW and IWH (The most basic ballad Bey has ever done) to be musically challenging for a listener.

Nothing about either songs is difficult to swallow.

I honestly think it goes down to singles choices. Rihanna/Katy have great single choices. I hated Born this Way's choices. And I think Beyonce's singles choices/ordering have always been wrong/messy in her solo career except for her DIL era.

Applause is GP friendly, it's Gaga herself who isn't. She's been getting freakier and freakier with each era it seems, and while most thought she would revert to being closer to her normal self, she turned it up again this era image-wise

The GP isn't here for those outrageous looks anymore, and it became very evident during the BTW era. I think she'd have more success just looking normal.

Who exactly are the GP we are referring to? I think the OP assumes the general public prefers Rihanna and Katy because they have bigger singles but we should think about whether or not these buyers are the general public or specific audiences like teenagers. They are the ones that buying pop music right? So to compare the buyers of pop music to the general public is a little skewed, don't you think? I wonder how many of the 30+ year olds would prefer the music/image of Rihanna and Katy to Beyonce and Gaga.

And if this is all so, to answer the question assuming the GP are the teenagers, then it's obvious Rihanna and Katy's images are much less mature than Beyonce and Gaga's. But if the GP are EVERYONE which it should be, I really don't think there is a clear preference here.

And as a response to the last part, generic music doesn't directly mean the music is bad, it just means it is easy to swallow because it is trendy

However, I do think Katy makes bad music (for the most part)

Gaga makes generic music, and so does Beyonce. Neither are progressive, GaGa takes old melodies and just puts some EDM beats behind it.

Rihanna and Katy just aren't detached from reality and know what sounds good.

Katy and Rihanna are just releasing fun good tunes. That are also for the most part relatable. I especially feel Katy Perry is really relatable. She just seems like a regular girl living her dream. With Gaga she is too out there and I can't relate to her at all. At first it didn't really matter so much because she was releasing great catchy music but I feel she kinda lost her touch.

It's about the single choices. It's about what's in, what's easy to sing along to. What's Top 40 material. Roar is pop candy. Beyonce was the RADIO Queen of the last decade. Her Music was Top 40 material. Soon you go against it you'll get i.e 4, Rated R. Don't act like what everything Rihanna and Katy puts out the GP eats it up. Right Now is a flop and it's only her 3rd single and her album is about to fall off the charts. Katy Perry is in her "IT GIRL" moment right now. Once that wears off we'll have to come back to this topic.

Yes! This is very well put.

Every artist will have a heyday. That is inevitable. If you don't and you're just constantly popular, you're more of a product than a person because a person has opinions and makes their own decisions.

Gaga - she did way too much way too soon. Instead of letting her music and her "art" speak for itself she overhyped it way too much, way too early and it became quite annoying after awhile. She tried telling people how to feel about it rather than letting them decide. And then when we do start hearing the music, it's nothing special or groundbreaking. The gimmicks are off putting as well and have tainted her. Even when she looks completely normal, it still comes off as gimmicky and that's been off putting to people as well. Basically she let it all get too big too fast and instead of taking the time off when people were still interested and making them want her back even more, she took the time off when people were less interested and it only worsened the longer she took.

Beyonce - There were alot of reasons why the 4 era was so lackluster. The lack of proper singles, RTW just wasn't good and BTINH was boring, the fact the album leaked like a month early, the pregnancy causing a rush release of music videos, etc. I don't think she'll have the same problems this time around. The public is ready for the new Beyonce album, they have been all year, and if she releases a killer lead single she'll be just fine.

Cause Beyonce keeps shoving down the GPs throat this whole "Female Empowerment" topic, while its more Lady Gagas fan base and also shoving down your throat the whole self empowerment LGBT etc every five seconds
