That she can take her experiences and thoughts and turn them into beautiful songs.

Of course I didn't say it was bad. Some artists can write about other experiences though and Tay's done that on occasion as well with Didn't they, Brought up that way, and Ronan but the majority of the material has been about herself much like how the majority of material by Dolly Parton is about Dolly.

She's okay, she's capable of much better than We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together. I mean, what was that? I just hope she matures as a writer, because she does have potential.

Yes, she's great.
She writes perfectly-crafted anthems like Never Ever or YBWM.
She writes poignant and emotional songs like Last Kiss or Ronan.
I think her greatest talent actually lies in the fact that she can write about 1 exact moment. For example, "Begin Again" is about the exact moment you finally move on from a past relationship and become comfortable with the idea of meeting someone new.

How do you process words?

but Innocent isn't about Kanye though its about John Mayer I do agree with the point you are making though.

If you just go by the voice then every artist sound the same.
Songs are differentiated by their lyrics, melody, theme, catchiness, production etc not by their voice

She's only 22 give her a break....she's still looking for love and to express what she feels she writes from her heart...I prefer that instead of Taylor singing about her *****
Anyways, let her grow up, experience new things, suffer more difficult situations and you will really see what a great songwriter she really is

WANEGBT does exactly what it's supposed to. It's a fun, anthemic pop masterpiece. If she was releasing lyrically focused songs like Begin Again all the time, she would be deemed 'boring'.

Judging an artist's songwriting skills is really subjective in my opinion. Music is all about how we connect to them. I've personally felt a lot of Taylor's songs because I could relate to many of them. What appeals to one may not appeal to someone else. Whilst I love some of her deep lyrics, I don't really pay attention to her shallow lyrics (because I believe they are for fun) .. Her sad songs are the best lyric-wise.
Besides, if Taylor was not a good song writer, she wouldn't have so many fans, and she wouldn't be standing where she is right now.
And I think this goes the same for every artist. Each artist (who writes their songs) has at least a song which is not all great, deep and praise worthy lyric-wise. But that is not the reason why we should doubt their songwriting skills.

No. If you listen to Madonna, she sang in so many different voice styles

Girl, have you listened to this masterpiece called as "Safe & Sound" (and it's step sister, "Eyes Open")?

What would you say about her lyrical style?
Don't you think she writes too plain?
i.e. "woke up today, he broke my heart, i hate him"... i mean.. very direct.. storytelling type of lyrics for all of her songs that I can remember
(this was what I was asking about in the op actually, not really the themes. I shouldn't have mentioned them)

Yall do too much on Never Ever, btw. It's no masterpiece, but even writing something as blatantly simple and brilliantly catchy is challenging. Even as "basic" as it is, it still possesses a core story line that progresses ("we called it off again last night" -> "you called me up again tonight") through the song, as well as the personal life insight ("you would hide away and find your peace of mind with some indie record that's much cooler than mine") Taylor is famous for.

I like simple songwriting but I can see how some wouldn't like that but its very direct and honest and I like that

What makes her lyrics so great is how direct they are. She is the perfect person to listen to when you want relatable music. It's typical of country music, they paint an image for you, rather than using metaphors & so on.

She has more songs than YBWM, if you didn't listen to them, don't judge her

but they are subtle when used, and not in your face like others, which is why they easily fly over your head
