Just to put things in perspective, Days of Future Past opened with around 90 million for the 3-day and 110m for the 4-day. BoxOffice.com is projecting a 61m 3-day and 74m 4-day for this.

Days of Future Past had amazing reviews and great fan response and that got a multiplier of 2.57 multiplier. Apocalypse has mediocre/bad reviews but good fan response. With a 61 million opening (who knows if this is too low), 61x2.57=156.77m.

We will see though, hopefully it holds up well for the rest of the week.

ugh, i dont get why xmen films are not that huge in the box office when the MCU films easily gross 600M+ and the storylines arent even that good...

Just came out of my second viewing and oh my god my life with Slay even more this time around !!!!!

If you go in wanting to critic a film you will find things to critic. A second viewing is a must not only for this but for every film. Critics go in with a certain mindset and that becomes unfair imo.

I think it's a combination of different factors.
- XMen franchise hasn't shown in IMAX in the states (top market) for whatever reason. Imax tickets are almost double thr prince of regular tickets, so that gives marvel a huge advantage.
-Disney holds a special place in everyone's lives since childhood. Disney is extremely iconic, the name alone gets people to go see their films.
-Marvel hold the merchandising rights for the xmen. Thus NOT releasing toys/merchandise etc that plague stores all over the world that also serve as promo for the film. The avengers merchandise is literally everywhere before a film. Xmen gets nothing.

I saw it yesterday! I liked it for the most part though things could be better, but I really likes a lot of the comic references.

Mystique was worthless, I'm glad they choked her and she was useless. Her stupid little talk to Magneto was so cheesy, Quicksilver slayed though, the mollywhooping he gave Apocalypse >>>>

I also agree that the makeup on JLaw looks so bad now, it doesn't look like scales with texture anymore, and don't get me started on that tacky wig and her body positions. Rebecca nailed it, she looked dangerous, mysterious, a bit gross yet still sexy.

I expected more from Psylocke, well all the action scenes to be honest, all her best parts were shown in the trailer, she looked amazing but she just spent most of the time in the background posing and looking sexy. I loved her fight with Beast and her an Angel teaming up.

Even though Fassy nailed his scenes, it was cheesy to see him go from good to bad and then back again and all just because of Raven's little talk. How he killed the police was great!

Storm was just there, blah... I can at her having Raven as her idol... plus I hated her voice, I always imagine Storm with a lower, powerful commanding voice that can really belt out. I also expected more from Apocalypse.

Scott was better than I expected, he looks much better on camera. Kurt was great as was Quicksilver. I really didn't care for Angel.

Jean though.... slay us Queen! Sophie did a great job, at first I was worried about her accent but she had choppy sentences at the beginning then she had a bit more dialogue which showed off her American accent much better. I kind of hated that she just stood there for a long part of the battle, I wanted to see her do more than just block Angels' blades... but then at the end she came out of Cerebro and the bitch got to business right way... strutted down, posed and released IT! A bit of a gimmick giving her all that power but whatever, Jean Grey does not need any explanations, she just slays, Sophie slays and Brian loves Sophie to pieces, I'm glad she finally got a big moment on screen.

Also the scene with Wolverine was great, I'm glad we saw Jean using more of her power there like manipulating people and restoring memories, Hugh looked amazing and I'm glad he met Jean and kind of sparked a bit of their connection, it was really a beauty and the beast type of scene though I wouldn't mind more scenes with them, Sophie can handle them.

Finally, I'm really glad at the end all the XMen powered against Apocalypse and Storm joined them.... a true teamwork.

My audience was so much fun. They gasped multiple times, cheered, yelled at the screen, laghed, even clapped at the end. Overall seemed to have enjoyed the film. Glad the gp is liking it. Critics did this so wrong.

is that really a big factor? i mean for civil war only $16M out of $179.1M came from imax, so i dont think it can affect the gross that much

I've seen it twice, and I really liked it!

Again, I believe that the critics were being far too harsh. Was it as good as Days of Future Past? No! But I think people who went in expecting it to top the (arguably) best movie in the franchise were let down.

I think with this movie, you're finally seeing a team form. The friendships among the X-Men has always been a key part of the comic and I'm glad to see them explore that here. The cut mall scene would've helped I think. Also them beginning to work as a team is important because they've never really done it. (In X3, I suppose but )

If I had 2 complaints it was I wish the narrative was a bit stronger and that Apocalypse and the Horsemen needed more to do. (Which would make the narrative stronger.)

I'd give it a 7.5/8 out of 10.
It's in my Top 3 X-Men movies.

But I need the 90s X-Men now. Those costumes at the end were

I watched this last week Friday here in Abuja. I was very excited prior to seeing the movie as I usually am for every Xmen movie. Have to say I was disappointed ...maybe a second viewing will change my mind.
I had several issues with this movie which included
- Dragging us from an over exposure to Huge Jackman in the previous movies to an over exposure to Jennifer Lawrence.
- Some of the acting was really horrible, especially Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique. Also I kept on seeing Sansa Stark through Sophie Turner's version of Jean Grey. It's not enough that she's a red head. Alexandra Shipp's accent wasn't as compelling as say Black Panther's from Captain America.
- The dialogue was cringe worthy in some parts, I found myself frustrated with some Infact ..."You will never win because you are alone" ...WTH?
- The CGI seemed half baked in some screen case in point the scene where Quicksilver was throwing students into pillows and mattresses to save them.

At this point I would say if 20th Century Fox is having such a difficult time managing this franchise they could perhaps just return the rights to Disney.

I feel so bad for Lana Condor. She talks about how they filmed her power scenes, backstory, etc. and seems really into it even though hadn't seen the finished product at the time of the interview.

Her powers apparently looked similar to Kitty Pryde's 'holding people's heads as they go into the past' visual effects.

I really hope they cast her in the New Mutants as a slightly older mentor though or something.

Maybe in the next Star wars film jedi will come out from theaters watching X-men apocalypse and someone say "we can all agree the third movie is always the worst" 48%... the worst indeed!
