Er…. it isn't exactly "in a short time," and second of all, I'd hesitate to say she improved her singing.
Her voice has grown over time, but she hasn't exactly grown with it. Considering how old she was when she first started singing, it was only natural that her voice would get stronger as she grew older, but she herself, as far as technique anyway, hasn't done the same.
She has a better voice now but she isn't particularly better at using it than she was in the beginning. In fact I'd go as far as saying she was better at using her voice on her first 2 albums than she is now. Her voice may have been nasal and whiny on those albums but she "flexed" it a lot more than she does now.
The dancing/performing is also a whole different story to me.

Eh I disagree, but we always seem to disagree about Rihanna so no surprise there.
Rihanna's runs and riffing on her first two albums were lazy, flat, and honestly annoying. She can do Adlibs much better now. Her range has grown as well which isn't always the case. The only thing is that her voice has dropped but that's mainly age.
Rihanna has learned to stay in key, beat, and on pitch. That is technique and SHE has improved that. Mariah and Whitney were declining by Rihanna's age in comparison so I'll stick by saying SHE has Improved her voice. She still has room for improvement though.
