I'm biased towards 808s because I listened to it the most as a child and have the most memories with it. I actually think Graduation or LR might be my faves.

The College Dropout was his angry album, Late Registration was his emotional album, Graduation was his reflective album, 808s was his re-inventive album, MBDTF was his solidifying his place album.

Yeezus & TLOP were just the albums he made while having a breakdown lol.

The way streaming has so swiftly changed the way album releases happen is so, intriguing.

The way Anti was kept off of platforms for a week and then released with the physical album,
it's such a cool technique and way to release an album. Anything is possible.
Even Gwen Stefani kept her album off of streaming sites for a few weeks, it's kind of smart.

Kanye's releasing of Pablo a month and a half later and it effectively giving the album new life...
such a smart tactic. I wonder what Beyonce will do.

It helps Kendrick that most critics are totally disconnected from the culture...you know, being white and all.
Not to say his music isn't deserving, but the point of entry for most white critics is hard to come by. So they're swayed by the cultural bias surrounding Kendrick. Basically, what black people think of him will translate to what white critics write of him in order not to seem out of touch.

That's why if B6 is a #BLM album, I can see it being in the 90's. Thank god for cultural divides.

Jcole and Kendrick have hipstery/festival music kid white fanbases but not like typical GP white people like Drake.

You're not going to drop "No Role Modelz" at some sweet 16 and have every white girl trying to rap along like they would Drake songs.

I don't think Cole is an afterthought at all.

When naming the top three rappers of today, it's usually Drake, Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole that are brought up.

And if we dissect numbers, acclaim and name recognition, it's definitely those three.

Big Sean and Wale are afterthoughts, for example. Sad that Cudi fell apart.

Literally with every album he has, he's changing something up, which is one of the reasons why he's so regarded as important to the industry.

I'm talking about in comparison to like the people he's constantly compared with and in terms of like presence and seeming relevant

Big Sean isn't in the same super praised critically acclaimed lyricist realm as Kendrick/J cole

Drake, Kendrick & Cole are the trinity of "this generation's popular rap artists". Big Sean/Meek Mill/A$AP kinda serve as the backseat crew, but they're still somewhat relevant I think.

But in terms of musical recognition, a lot of people fux with his music.
