I do think 2014 Forest Hills Drive is underrated, but there's a lot to be said about it being Cole's most successful album commercially. I could see it being a "rap classic" of some sorts.

You can argue that both Kanye and Kendrick are just critical bait and there is bias for the both of them.

I just think Yeezus is a bunch of noise.

UU was as it was... a demo compilation of unfinished things. Not a magnum opus that was 11/10 and better than discographies.

That is straight up what you call, ass-kissing. Critics literally afraid to give it anything less than 5/5.

I enjoyed it more than Cole World, Born Sinner & Forest Hills. It's not ass-kissing, it's just K.DOT's material appeals to me more than Cole. The latter doesn't really hold up for me, and just because they're B-Sides or "throwaways" doesn't mean they're less or worse than the songs on Cole's albums like Villuminati for example. I'm not going to dismiss the UU material just like that. Untitled 05/08 are kinda SOTY contenders. Critic wise, they might've felt the same way, not sure.

With Kanye everyone truly has different opinions on what his best album is though, so his acclaim makes sense for the most part.

I've seen dozens of people say The College Dropout was his peak, a dozen people say 808s was his peak, a dozen people say MBDTF was his peak, and a dozen people say Yeezus was his peak.

Although my rankings would probably be: 808s > LR = Graduation > TCD > MBDTF > Yeezus

Idk where TLOP would be yet.

I do think with Kanye though your favorite albums all depends on who you are & when you started listening to him.

A black guy who's been supporting him since 2003 would moreso prefer The College Dropout and Late Registration.

Whereas your 19 year old white kid would love Yeezus.

It's not mystifying at all. He's urban enough for the black crowd to bump him and he's bland and safe enough for white people to feel okay loving him (and feel like they're being "down" in the process).

Kanye has a GOAT discography, which is why everyone usually have different placements and rankings over his albums. I feel it switches up a lot of the time though.

The reason he is a legendary musician is because he has like 5-10 signature "Kanye" things,
but always always uses his platform to push the envelope and do something new.
