It's probably not the song itself that makes Venus a better choice for the second single as it is the fact that the "Venus era" was actually planned, even if in the slightest. Everything about DWUW was a total mess because it was always meant to be an irrelevant promo single until it was hastily released as a single instead of Venus. Gaga also preferred Venus to DWUW and was given a short time frame to come up with the video for DWUW, which probably made her pretty reluctant to promote it. Then people started betraying her and we didn't hear from her in forever and never got a video.

I can't see why you would still prefer DWUW as the second single. Everyone knows that it killed ARTPOP.

Applause is such a good fun song, though the lyrics were kinda too "artistic" for me , the production and instrumental went off. Truly the best single out of the ARTPOP era

I don't claim that Venus would have been a huge hit, but you can't deny that Gaga's heart was in it and not in DWUW. She pretty much sabotaged ARTPOP because of that. Of course it's childish in a way but in the end she wanted to protect her art and was hurt.

Blablabla LG5 will be full of potential smashes so who cares anymore.

A sound similar to Melanie Martinez' Dollhouse (song) would be incredible. Alternative catchy pop with a rock influenced chorus and electronic elements. I wouldn't want the same lyrical and thematic influences as Melanie but the sound would be amazing for Gaga imo.
