The problem with Britney is that she's a nostalgia act, like a legitimate nostalgia act. And the most annoying part about it is that she didn't have to become one.

She was still very much a formidable and relevant competitor in the Pop scene with the FF era, no matter what people want to think. She was getting #1's and Top 10s domestically, and she went on a world tour.

Those cheap "hits" that come and go mean nothing. Even RTW(G) is more memorable than all of those.

Her career as a tour de force in pop music was practically dead in 2009, and I'm being generous.

bomt look was iconic but the song is forgotten. no one remembers. Toxic is a cult pop fan "classic" at best. Britney does not have that quintessential song, her songs didnt stand the test of time. thats because besides toxic they were trend hopping, and when you follow trends youre forgotten when the trend ends

She has memorable songs just like *NSync, Backstreet Boys and Christina Aguilera, but EVERYTHING about her is always what she used to be. She's the prime example of a nostalgia act. Half the people who go on and on about her weren't even old enough to witness the bubblegum pop era. She's a pop icon, but so are lots of nostalgia acts.

They are all kind of forgotten until you mention them tbqh. They are classics in the same sense as "Wanna Be" and "I Want It That Way" that if people play them it's like "omgz remember this song?" but they're not like, you might hear them at the barbecue type classics.

True, but the fact that she was getting #1 singles was proof that she still could've competed. 2009 was the last time she looked lively and stuff as well.

Outside of like music forums and a certain decade of gheys, she kind of is. Maybe not who Britney is herself but her music definitely is. I don't think it's entirely her fault though. The fact that her music was generic of the moment, teeny bopper, run of the mill pop music probably doesn't help much, especially in terms of the longevity, classic factor.
