I'm scalped. Although not as good as DoFP, it was a genuinely entertaining movie. It obviously has it's faults (pacing, etc), but I was surprised how much I enjoyed the movies, kinda sat down in the cinema with a fear of not liking it. Watched it in IMAX, if y'all have the chance then I totally recommend it, the experience was just

The flight scene had me SHOOK, holy ****ing ****. I basically did not breathe for like five minutes The opening scene was rad too. I too think that the four horsemen were more useful in the beginning, than Angel () and co. They were seriously underutilized. And hell, even Apoc didn't do that much ****, or it didn't feel like it, and I think that's because you forget about the normal humans in this movie. Like, they're absent except a few dramatic looks here and there.

Watched it with my friend and she said she really enjoyed it and "no wonder because X-Men movies are always good" She even said she enjoyed it far more than DoFP. Nearly watched it directly after the end again in IMAX but I was tired and I need to work today.

Criticism about the SFX surprises me. I saw it in IMAX too, and I think the intensity of the images with the sound being so loud must mask the flaws that other people have mentioned.

I'm okay with JLaw, but "her" Mystique is so inconsistent I don't find her a very believable character. I think her staying in the role would seal off the potential of Nightcrawler and Rogue as characters in their own right.

It was good, but the story should've been done after X2. It felt kinda awkward.

Jean/Cyclops were the highlights - I'm worried about how non-die-hard xmen fans will respond to the film, because most of the payoffs came from nostalgia & seeing characters from the comics.

Just saw it.

I thought it was entertaining and mostly what you want from an X Men film. It's all about the variety of characters with their cool powers working together (which IMO the other superhero franchises don't do as well) but battling their differing points of view over the mutants' place in the world. All they can do is rehash that in different contexts with different character emphasises.

The new crop of characters were good. I was pleasantly surprised by Sophie's Jean (the trailer made her accent seem questionable). Some were under-utilised, and I hope Storm finally gets some attention in the following films because she's such an iconic, cool character to consistently leave so secondary. Xavier, Magneto and co were good as always. Though Jennifer Lawrence felt detached...and I felt her lack of blue-ness screamed contractual agreement to reduce time involvement.

Apocalypse felt like he needed to be played/doubled by a taller actor. It didn't work for me to have him the same height as the others. Oscar did well with what he had, but he could have been used for close ups and voice.

I felt the opening sequence in Egypt was cool, felt fresh in the genre to hark back when it's typically so futuristic. And when the Phoenix rose it was pretty epic. Thought it was a good decision to bring it out so early in Jeans new arc. Makes you intrigued about her character and where they'll take it. Otherwise she'd have come across as Xavier-lite.

That said, things I would have changed:

- For Apocalypse to be felt as a mega threat, he needed to be more menacing and mysterious - more of a puppet master to his four horsemen for most of the film because he has such a dismissive superiority. He wouldn't feel the need to get actively involved because he thinks so little of everything. He'd only go full-on Apocalypse when his mutant decedents turned on him/his cause. That'd be the logical point where he'd think "enough".

- I'd have built to that climax by following Apocalypse's speech to the world with the horsemen attacking four different locations. That way you'd see Storm, Magneto, Angel and Psylocke really causing destruction. And see the human death toll (which they majorly ignore in the film). You'd also see a follow up of Xavier's rally cry for mutants to protect the humans. Again, that'd piss off Apocalypse. Considering you have Nightcrawler and Apocalypse with the ability to teleport - it wouldn't have been difficult to then unite all the characters on either side at the pyramid for the final sequence (which could play out the same).

- Cut down the school explosion scene. That could have been half as long. While it makes sense that he'd need to save everyone inside and that takes time, it felt bloated repeating the same 'gag' for a few minutes.

- I didn't mind the Wolverine bit, but it felt like that should have been more of a teaser rather than giving it all up on a plate. I get he served a plot purpose in helping them escape, but seeing/hearing him in the container was more hype-worthy than anything that followed.

Yup, it's strange they're bashing it. It looked perfectly fine. The only thing that was horrid when Scott's power activated and it ripped out a huge chunk of the ceiling. That was so laughable, but other than that, I'm slayed.

Just saw the film...... Sophie Turner will be the new face of this franchise. Not only is she likeable but puts a stellar performance in. I would see this movie for the first 5 minutes alone.... best part of the movie and engages you from that moment forward. First/second act well paced and interesting though choppy. 3rd act is a hot mess. I'm the biggest fox men (lol) defender but even i can admitt , this is where the cracks begin to become obvious, they aint that slick . Still fun as hell though! The phoenix moment f**ked up my life... i cried! Great final shot. All in all started superbly, by the end caved in by it's scale and ambitions. Not the quite the heights of DOFP, but by no means the worst of the franchise.... P.S don't let the reviews sway you're opinion, most are overly harsh.

Can't believe i've seen it finally. All the build up since 2014 and it's over. It's the end of the Apocalypse era gurls it feels like family, like i've grown up with phreshprince (can't wait for you to finally see it) and Rusty... it's time to move forward with the Wolverine era!! Can't wait......

I'm totally on board with Romijn coming back on board again. As commercially important as Lawrence is, I don't care for what she does with Mystique at all and she doesn't bring anything to the role. I also really don't see how her version of the character is going to evolve in the Mystique we see in X1.

She brings a more human Mystique, not the soulless badass version. And X1 Mystique is gone, since DoFP reseted the timeline. She didn't kill in Washington so her motives and thus her character arc changed. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Romijn and her Mystique but since this timeline they're entirely different.

Oh right that's true. The damn timeline keeps confusing me. I feel like Romijn would be perfectly capable of portraying a more human Mystique too though.
