Poor Katy, the thing is that she's never really mattered. At best she's been a colorful background distraction, at worst a shrieky garish nuisance. Now the older she gets the more she'll go from distraction to nuisance.
I think she needs to show growth if she wants to sustain her success. She's shown virtually none since Teenage Dream - it's just the same sounds & harmless images over & over again.
