The main reason why Disclosure didn't push this as the lead or second single from their album was because they already planned the era beforehand. I mean, they said that "Magnets" was one of the latest tracks to be included on the album and I guess they shot the four
Caracal videos before the collaboration came out if it's considered that the music video for "Magnets" doesn't follow the story from the first three videos ("Holding On", "Omen" and "Jaded"), despite the first scene from "Magnets" gives a hint of it. Also, there's a remaining video, so I assume they are going to save it if they're going to push this track officially.
Anyway, as I mentioned before, I hope Capitol sees that "Magnets" has potential to do decently in the States and it could be officially released as the second US single. ("Jaded" would be DOA, despite I love the track. Sigh!) That said, with the unexpected push from the Alternative stations, they could send the track for adds in the following days and they could plan a release to the other formats, especially the CHR/Pop one.
As a side note, I'm not sure about this, but AllAccess is listing this as an Island and Republic release. That said, the former is the main label from Disclosure (Capitol is for the US), while the latter is from Lorde, so maybe this could be a joint release and Republic wants to create some buzz for Lorde's upcoming album?
