I actually really like this; it's cute, funny, and peppy. Probably her 2nd best video (after Unconditionally, which is absolutely beautiful) in an era filled with ridiculous and underwhelming videos, especially Dark Horse, which is an undeniably hard and dark sounding bop with a laughably embarrassing video. I do see how some people would think this is not a good video or think it to be "childish," which I kinda agree that Katy does fall back on the silly, juvenile thing; I wish she would do more music videos like Unconditionally and release songs that require such editorial and serious music videos. But over the course of reading the comments here, there are 2 distinctions I wanna make: there is a difference between "fun" and "childish." And there's a difference between a "cartoon" and an "animated film." Make the distinction and don't be so close-minded.
The only thing that bugged me is how every scene matched with every verse so literally, but I guess for a song like this it works.
I agree with this. I feel like not everything has to be so literal. I think that's why Unconditionally was such a strong video. Yeah, the metaphors were a little heavy-handed, but not everything that was happening in the video was being described by the song played over it. She'll get better at this in the future, I'm sure.
Now if Katy had made a good video for Birthday... she could've afforded to do this one. I wish they had remixed this into a more R&B/Electronic sounding song.
