Girls, you may hate me but..
The janet. era was kinda boring and lukewarm as well.
I guess I hold control and rhythm nation to a higher standard with its music videos and single releases.
janet. was just interesting...
If was cute.

And the reviews were kinda lukewarm, as well. It would've been a 64 on Metacritic (check my thread on that) so when I listened to it, I kinda agreed, the singles were really the stand outs on the album, and that's not always a good thing.

But the AFY was so iconic that Janet still proved she was still THAT B****, over Britney and Christina.

Eh dunno about that
Even where it was certified in the same countries as TVR, it still pales
For example
Australia
AFY - Gold
TVR - 2x Plat
UK
AFY: Gold
TVR: Plat

In the USA, AFY only sold 100,000 less than TVR.
AFY started out strong. 2 hit singles, over 600k in first week, and a successful tour that started three months after the album released. But 9/11, Europe being canceled, and releasing SOAG and no singles after it ended the era quickly.
TVR started out soft. GTIG was only an Urban hit and the album did over 200k in first week. But Together Again, IGL, Go Deep, and the tour kept the album surviving with consistent sales.

I'm sure there was an interview in which she said she wishes she could go back and do janet. differently or something along those lines. I can't remember where though.

I agree that AFY could have overtaken TVR in the US, just not outside of it (mainly because of Together Again)

I really wish I was living around the Rhythm Nation era. PMF, I so agree with you. That era was so legendary and iconic, it almost made Madonna invisible. Janet WAS the force!!

No, I'm listening to a quality slow jam.
I get so lonely,
Can't let just anybody hold me.

HEW ELSE was doing it?
Remember when I initially gave my 11 in the Essentials rate to TTN and everyone dragged me? Heathens.

And this one is my most played Janet song.
It's very underrated. One of my favorite vocal performances from her.

I Get Lonely is one of my favourite songs ever too. And yes, TTN is grossly underrated.

I like the sweetness in her voice on Tonight's the Night. The first time I heard it, I assumed in the opening 30 seconds or so that I'd downloaded a cover from someone else.
