Apple Music has been the most successful competitor yet, and if the labels can't generate the revenue they need from Spotify on it's Freemium tier, then Spotify may stop getting much of the music withheld -- not from the artists but from the record companies themselves, to force Spotify to a pay only service. Music revenues are flat because sales for CDs, Digital Albums & Digital Singles are all down, and far too many on Spotify are opting for the Freemuim service. If the record labels aren't getting their money, we won't get their music. Those are the laws of economics.

US has been pretty stable this year and AM will help a lot. The only countries still freefalling are the ones that have rejected streaming (like Japan)
And about the labels, I don't get where is everyone getting this "The labels are mad and want to destroy streaming" tea but look at the UMG report:

It’s a big day for Lucian Grainge: Universal Music Group’s recorded music revenues grew 15.2% in the first six months of 2015 – as a boom in streaming income transformed it into a truly digital-first enterprise.
At a time when UMG remains locked in licensing negotiations with Spotify and other services, the major saw its total revenues from streaming – across ad-funded and subscription – leap up by 34% in H1 2015.
This was more than enough to offset drops in physical sales, from which income fell 7.4% (at constant currency/perimeter), and downloads, which were down 5% on the same basis.
Music publishing revenue at UMPG was up 2.7% at constant currency/perimeter to €352m, which Universal pinned on “improvements in digital and performance revenues”.
Meanwhile, merchandising revenues grew 3.2% at constant currency/perimeter to €132m.

And that's only from iHype's posts in this thread It really blows my mind how people want to make Spotify/Streaming the enemy
I get Taylor's point about the value of music but the whole labels/artists are not getting enough money is nonsense.

Latin American countries have also been hit by piracy quite hard. Streaming services are available in several countries here but not mine.

The crux of my argument dealt with why paid streaming will ultimately completely replace the freemium model, almost certainly before the end of 2016. I only mentioned downloads and CDs in my post to provide recent examples of revenue available to which have dramatically and rapidly dried up for the record labels.
I'm not going to bother continuing this argument. It's simply not worth it, just a week after my neck operation (not seeking sympathy, simply stating facts) to waste my time searching for all of the sources I have read through this year backing the problems with freemium. I'm done, the future will prove who's right.

Infinity.
1D always finds success with their first single, after that it's downhill with them.

I just started using Spotify and I was poking around and found a Discover Weekly playlist. Is this compiled the same for everybody or did Spotify make it just for me?
If they made it for me...

It is the same for everybody, you'll find good and bad music there. Do remember we all don't have the same taste.
