45 · ED SHEERAN, "Thinking Out Loud"
Weeks on Chart: 13+ Weeks
Peak Position: #01 (2 Weeks)
Debut Date: October 11, 2014
"Thinking Out Loud" was originally part of the lower fourth on my initial list. However, it really grew on me a lot throughout the end of the year. Thanks to all the people who have overplaying and over-clamoring this Ed track. I wasn't really a big fan of this track when it was released, but it grew on me day by day.
♫ "And darling I will be loving you 'til we're 70. And baby my heart could still fall as hard at 23." ♫
2013: EMELI SANDE, "My Kind Of Love (RedOne & Alex P Remix)" |
|
44 · NICOLE SCHERZINGER, "Your Love"
Weeks on Chart: 11 Weeks
Peak Position: #01 (1 Week)
Debut Date: June 21, 2014
I was a big fan of the "Killer Love" era and ever since, I constantly kept an eye on Nicole's releases. "Boomerang" was just okay, and I'm glad she somehow recovered with "Your Love". The track incorporated house elements and it perfectly suited Nicole's sultry vocals.
♫ "I need you in the daytime, especially in the night time. I'm never in my right mind when I'm with you, baby, oh." ♫
2013: RIHANNA f/ MIKKY EKKO, "Stay" |
|
43 · ZEDD f/ MATTHEW KOMA & MIRIAM BRYANT, "Find You"
Weeks on Chart: 3 Weeks
Peak Position: #17
Debut Date: March 29, 2014
After making it big last 2013 with "Clarity", Zedd scores another Top 50 hit with the Divergent soundtrack "Find You". I admit I was not impressed with the track at first cause I was expecting something like "Clarity". Nevertheless, this EDM smash grew on me big time during the second half of the year.
♫ "I'll run away with your foot steps. I'll build a city that dreams for two. And if you lose yourself, I will find you." ♫
2013: LITTLE MIX, "Change Your Life" |
|
42 · A GREAT BIG WORLD f/ CHRISTINA AGUILERA, "Say Something"
Weeks on Chart: 8 Weeks
Peak Position: #03
Debut Date: December 21, 2013
Here comes another heartwarming track. "Say Something" became one of the most in-demand track during the end of 2013. Like a bunch of entries on the list, "Say Something" was a grower. I actually find it forgettable at first. However, the sincerity and vulnerability got me eventually.
♫ "I will swallow my pride and hope you will too. I'm not saying goodbye. Just a renewed hello to you." ♫
2013: MILEY CYRUS, "Wrecking Ball" |
|
41 · NICK JONAS, "Jealous"
Weeks on Chart: 10 Weeks
Peak Position: #01 (1 Week)
Debut Date: September 27, 2014
Jonas Brothers bid farewell last 2013 releasing two mediocre songs. This 2014, Nick Jonas goes back to the studio with the very sexy and steamy "Jealous". I really find the R&B vibe of the track amazing, and Nick really delivered impressive vocals. I hope he goes to this direction cause it suits him well.
♫ "It's not your fault that they hover. I mean no disrespect. It's my right to be hellish. I still get jealous." ♫
2013: SELENA GOMEZ, "Slow Down" |
|
CLEAN BANDIT f/ JESS GLYNNE, "Rather Be"
Best Electronic Song Ever
Definitely one of the first electronic songs I loved in 2014. "Rather Be" was an instant favorite. Good I always kept an eye on the UK Singles Chart and saw this topping the list for weeks. Jess Glynne definitely delivered impressive vocals and Clean Bandit's production was awesome. It was just a bit sad to see that people are tending to overplay this incredible masterpiece.
RUNNER-UP: DISCLOSURE f/ SAM SMITH, "Latch" |

40 · THE VAMPS, "Can We Dance"
Weeks on Chart: 8 Weeks
Peak Position: #02
Debut Date: January 4, 2014
The Vamps was on the verge of releasing their second single when I discovered this new British sensation. As a fan of boybands, it wasn't difficult for me to got hooked into what this band can offer. "Can We Dance" was an instant favorite. I really love the pop rock vibe and the playful vocals the guys put into.
♫ "Please say she'll break, Please say she'll change her mind and bring me back to her place." ♫
2013: DAFT PUNK f/ PHARRELL WILLIAMS, "Get Lucky" |
|
39 · THE VAMPS, "Wild Heart"
Weeks on Chart: 9 Weeks
Peak Position: #02
Debut Date: February 1, 2014
The Vamps makes a back-to-back appearance in the Top 40, now with "Wild Heart". Compared to "Can We Dance", this track was a bit tamer and more rhythmic. I am pretty much impressed with how they venture on the pop rock genre. The single version opposite Pixie Lott sounded amazing, too.
♫ "Stay here, my dear, feels like I've been standing right here for years, My mind's beat up. Tell me that you feel this, and I won't give up." ♫
2013: ROBIN THICKE f/ T.I. & PHARRELL WILLIAMS, "Blurred Lines" |
|
38 · KATY B, "5 AM"
Weeks on Chart: 7 Weeks
Peak Position: #01 (1 Week)
Debut Date: March 1, 2014
Placing at #38 is an interesting entry courtesy of Katy B. I've been following the UK Singles Chart frequently but I never got the chance to listen any Katy B song. It was only once when this track was shown during a commercial break of a TV program I was watching. I love how haunting and repetitive it was done.
♫ "Ooh, I need somebody to calm me down - a little loving like Valium. I need somebody to knock me out. I need some loving like." ♫
2013: JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE, "Mirrors" |
|
37 · MEGHAN TRAINOR, "All About That Bass"
Weeks on Chart: 6 Weeks
Peak Position: #03
Debut Date: August 20, 2014
This lady had a great 2014 after her debut single "All About The Bass" smashed globally. Listening to its funky doo-wop vibe, liking the song wasn't that difficult. Not to mention the cool swag attitude Meghan delivered to empower plus-sized women. However, I got too used to it due to people's overplaying.
♫ "If you got beauty, beauty just raise 'em up. 'Cause every inch of you is perfect from the bottom to the top." ♫
2013: AVRIL LAVIGNE, "Rock N Roll" |
|
36 · IGGY AZALEA f/ RITA ORA, "Black Widow"
Weeks on Chart: 9 Weeks
Peak Position: #01 (1 Week)
Debut Date: August 23, 2014
After the global smash hit "Fancy", Iggy released another fancy track with British popstar Rita Ora. "Black Widow" was instant favorite of mine for its catchy hooks and fun-to-sing-with rap verses. Iggy delivered another great performance on this single, and Rita definitely rendered such impressive vocals.
♫ "You should've known better. Then to mess with me, heartache. I'm gonna lie to you like a black widow, baby." ♫
2013: KE$HA, "C'Mon" |

"Find You" and "Thinking Out Loud" in the previous set they are way too low, though.
